delayed vst's?
Using Philharmonic. I have to run through the piece once till all the patches have been played once before they play correctly. First time through a lot of them sound terrible especially percussion. Could I have something set wrong? Or is that just the way it is? thanks John

No. For some reason I had you blocked. I see it now. What bit depth and sample rate are you using?

Perhaps there is a memory-saving option wherein samples are loaded on demand, rather than loading the entire library in advance? Superior Drummer, for example, has such a feature and it can easily cut the memory footprint by half, with the catch being that you have to play the song all the way through once in order to load all the samples.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I copy what bitflipper said. There is usually a setting for amount to preload in memory in samplers. 50ms- 500ms or whatever. So you should not have to have to play the entire song in advance. Just increase setting for preload so that your computer can handle the burden. Or use another common feature in samplers that you can unload what is not used so far, if using no memory saving options before. It's often just to press a button to unload samples that have not been played yet. But this requires playing through song as said before.
