deleting tracks

I have two tracks I would like to delete. They are both synth tracks. When I try to delele them the program crashes. I do not have this problem with other projects. I tried to first delete all the buses but that didn't make a difference. I also try the safe mode of loading the file, and it gives me the option of what tracks I would like to load, but even though I say no to the two files I don't want, they still load. Any advice?
thanx

Did you try deleting the synths pointing to those tracks and any FX in the Fx bin before deleting the tracks?

They are both ARIA player softsynths which I bought from Cakewalk some time ago. These two tracks I am talking about did not give me trouble before. Also I may may deleted one (bass guitar) by mistake and will have to rewrite it (on the score), if I can do anything at all with it If I just click on the bass guitar track, the program crashes.

I don't have a FX on one of the syths, and the other I cannot tell since I cannot click on the track without it crashing immediately. Otherwise the tracks are sythn tracks: I don't know what you mean by 'pointing to'.

you could open the project in safe mode and then "NOT" load the two synths. Then save the project. You should be able to delete them form the synth rack if they are still showing. Steve

That is the most mysterious part. I hold down the shift key when I click on the file, and I do exactly what you say, but the two files I don't want are still there. But when the undesired track  to which I say 'no', does it matter whethe I click just 'no' or 'no to all'?

Does it only crash when you try to delete the 2 synth tracks? I mean can you load the project without it crashing? If you can load it ok then another work around might be to open the project, then open a blank (new) project, then copy the tracks that are ok and not the ones with the bad synths. Hope that makes sense?

That works in theory. I tried it and it made a mess. There are two many bugs. I also ended up losing some plug in synth files by mistake, and I don't  how to get them back to the installed VSTs.
    thanx anyway

I finally deleted the tracks using 'audio cleanup' in the Sonar menus. They still are mentioned here and there in menus, but I think that will clear up in time. Thanx for encouragement.
In the process I tried uninstalling some syth plug ins. It didn't accomplish anything however and now I can't seem to get them back. I guess it's one problem after another.
