did you get this years flu yet?

lots of sneezing, bit of  a sore throat, an array of aches and pain, and bouts of exhaustion.  a really nice flu this year.   its mild, but annoying.   its almost, "a boutique flu."

one to remember...   I'm not one for the shots, so hopefully my immune system remembers this strain, and I do not catch another.

Don't get me wrong, "If I get cancer, I'll opt for the chemo," but those flu shots, seems like you are going to weaken yourself, and become totally resistant...  meh, "if I was in my 70s, or not all that healthy in my late 50s and 60s...  I'd consider the flu shot.

Till then, "Its 79 degrees outside, and I'm in a sweatshirt."  I imagine you guys up north, "will be taking cover by the fireplace."

too many lasers...

I chose to stay healthy instead but, then again, I'm not "trendy" anyway.

''No I haven't'' had the ''flu shot'' this ''year''. I should have ''had it last year'' but I ''didn't''.

No... and if you have it stay out of the Coffee House!

Hope you feel better and DON'T have it. Just in case, get some tamiflu. The Dr (or the minit clinic) can swab your nose/mouth and do a quick test to check for flu virus. If it's just a cold get some of the Coldeze spray.. ASAP. It works if you use it ASAP. BTW " its almost, "a boutique flu." tells me that you do not have the flu that is epidemic. That one is nasty.
Or you could take some a-c-i-d... I cured more than one cold back in the early 70s in 24 hours with it. Believe it or not, it WORKS. You need about 300mcg. The next day you'll have a sort of burnt smell in your nose and the next day it is GONE! Of course you may become psychotic but you wont have a cold.

Re:did you get this years flu yet? 2013/01/13 19:31:37 (permalink)
I've had flu shots the past two years. This year I'm probably going to abstain. The flu is supposed to be endemic in New York and God knows there are enough a-holes who cough and sneeze all over the subway to get it quite easily. Some places are running out of flu shots because Cuomo declared a state of emergency (puh-leeze) and all the neurotics think they're going to die.

Sometimes I feel like I have a strong immune system, other times not so much. I always seem to have a scratchy throat during the winter but that's dry air related. I do get a couple of colds a year though. However, there's been times when everyone around me has had the kind of raging flu where it hurts to touch the hair on your head, and all I've gotten is a few twinges and aches in the knees and maybe a night of nausea. Last week I had a day of feeling tired and sick, went to bed at 9pm, had 12 hours of the most blissfully delirious sleep possible (lots of waking up and realizing I could go back for another few hours....bliss) and then felt fine the next morning. I thought "was that my dose of the flu? Did I beat it?" Hope so.

Don't think I've had the flu properly for a good 10-15 years or so. I remember the last time. Such agony, I could barely move. Every square inch hurt. My joints ached, my skin was sore. What I really hate the most are the weirdly abstract dreams you have when you're sick. The last time I had the flu, I kept dreaming that I was in a large room. From the ceiling hung hundreds of sharp utensils on string, at about head height. To get out of the room I had to wade through these hanging utensils and they were cutting into me. I think each time I hurt in my dream it correlated with an actual pain from my flu. Kept waking up, thinking "man that sucked," going back to sleep and dreaming exactly the same thing. Another time I was delirious, I became obsessed with some mythical damp spot behind the baseboard. I could not stop picturing it in my mind. Totally baffling.

No, I caught a regular old run-of-the-mill cold--right after I went to the doctor's office for a physical.  That was just after Thanksgiving.  I'm hoping to avoid any further run-ins with germs.

Nope I had a shot in September, I got Norovirus over Christmas though and as far as I'm concerned you can blow that one out your ass.  In fact, you won't have any other choice but doing that for a good 48 hours if you do get it.  No shots available for that I'm afraid.

Here's the gory lowdown on the charming affectation that's currently sweeping the nation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norovirus

I'm sure it was our pre-Christmas trip to the theatre was my exposure point, yet there was 3 of us in our small flat over Christmas and I managed not to spread it any further, even in the state of delirium I was in with it I could still keep myself clean.  It makes you wonder at the hygiene habits of the humanity that surrounds us because good hygiene is the single most effective method of preventing it spreading.

All of a sudden I feel sick again.  Them dirty buggers.

Now go wash your hands after reading this post.

i get a flu shot every season.

i have done this, for 20 years now.

can't remember the last time i actually got the flu.

bad head colds, yes, other viruses, yes, but not the flu.

i get the flu shot in october.

i don't know why you would want to wait any later than that.

3 flu viruses were included in the shot.

the best they can do, is track and monitor and try to create a flu shot that covers the worse offenders, they can't get them all.

and flu viruses are pretty varied.

I rarely get anything. My wife is an elementary school teacher.... and being around 4th graders means she gets exposed to all sorts of things....and generally keeps a cold all season long.

For some reason, I never seem to catch it.

I don't take the flu shots ever.  This year, they are admitting that the flu shot they are administering to everyone doesn't even have the right stuff in it to handle the flu that is going around in this so called epidemic.... so why would you even want to pay to get THAT shot? Useless shot with a dose of mercury on the side? Yeah.... I'll pass.

For those that do get it.... I hear it's pretty bad..... the news paper here said that 2 have died and lots more are in bad shape..... here locally.... oh well.... I may get it tomorrow..... or not...
I'm waiting for the one that jumps the animal human barrier, and mutates and turns into an epidemic of biblical proportions..... the kind of thing they make sy-fi movies about.... they say we, as humans, are way overdue for something like that...... statistically speaking....

Get well soon....

That's actually normal for any flu outbreak. The media is a disgrace, every year they publish scare stories about how this new outbreak is the deadliest for years, how millions of people could be affected, how hundreds are dying and how it could turn into a national crisis. It never happens. NEVER. The number of people killed is always about the same, and the people who die are the same people who are at risk from the most mundane flu outbreak - the old, the sick, the weak. Normal healthy people aren't dying of flu in America or Europe.

Yeah...... they sensationalize everything..... because it sells whatever media they are selling.... The 2 people who died here in our local area made the front page of our tiny paper.  It takes all of 2 minutes to read the paper thoroughly.

I work quite often in nursing homes and while they are not checking or stopping me, they have signs on the front doors warning anyone who might even think they are sick to stay out or wear a surgical mask, and wash hands......

I don't doubt the flu is a nasty bug... it always is.... fortunately, we have not seen anything like the Spanish flu that occurred back in the early part of the 1900's... IIRC it decimated the world and killed 18 million people. Then again.... medicine and science has come a long way since then as well.....

At my work I have the pleasure or "pleasure" of meeting lots of people from all around the world. So I'm suffering my second bad flu of the winter already. First one I got in Greece in november, it was really nasty, and before I was totally recovered I got another one last week. This one isn't that bad, more like phneumonia type, no fever.  I'm really worn out at the moment.

I'm over it, me thinks..  I mean, "just remnants of a slightly ill feeling," are all that's left.  It was like a really mild illness, but it stuck for near ten days.

I'm definitely not bothering with a flu shot now..  But boy, I don't want to do that one again..
