i have home studio 7xl and now dimension pro.  is there a way to only install several instrument patches, like the pianos, without installing all the rest?

You don't need to delete the programs - they take no volume.  You need to delete the "multisample" files.  That is where the mass is.  I don't remember if the samples are in folders.  If not, it would make a tedious process.  You could dump them to a dvd as files in case you delete something you need, or to reinsert them into their proper place if you don't delete the programs.
