drewfx1 hits a new low!

Thought I'd post this for spacey and others who enjoy figured/exotic woods. The neck is pau ferro with a nicely figured ziricote fingerboard.

(Or did you get two?)

Vintage white and the vagaries of photography.

And laziness when it comes to color correction.

I have a black belt in laziness. Well, at least I would have a black belt if I wasn't so damn lazy.

From what I can see the neck looks beautiful...and very well made. I've been looking forward to working with
both of those woods.

Well, I don't get credit for the "well made" part as I just put it together. I like to think of my job as just not ruining it.

The neck is raw (unfinished) and the pau ferro is just fantastically smooth. I'm not sure how hard it is to tool, but I am sure you will get fantastic results with it.

I think the Pau Ferro is very similar to Rosewood - in tonal characteristics too. I know many luthiers love working with it and I think it's a beautiful wood...would like to have seen the back of the bass.

The back of the neck isn't particularly figured (for PF):

There is some thought that tonally PF is quite a bit brighter than rosewood - closer to maple, but it's hard to really tell anything given the number of factors involved. I don't worry too much about those things as I sort of aim broadly for what I want to achieve and then believe in letting the result be what it wants to be. I always think that if someone wants a wood that "sounds like maple" then they should just use maple.

Thank you Drew. It's looks fantastic.

It's nice to have woods that look very different that may have similar tonal character. Nice to have PF with the beautiful grain and colors should one want something other than Rosewood....for example.
