driver question

hi guys. Hey when I went to the download page for the V 700 8.1 Windows drivers I see a notice that says in order to use this driver I must have the V 700 C in standalone mode. I don't understand since I have the set including the V 700 R.

Sorry to be a little dense but can anyone explain that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't looked at the 8.1 page yet, but basically it means that you have to install the V700C stand alone drivers and run the console via USB to use the 8.1 drivers. There may be more software and firmware updates and variations there. I think it generally means the VS 700 set system drivers aren't complete yet. It's hard to say. You remember when this all came out that they had two ways of running the console, via special connection or USB. I think this was for using the Console with other software on USB. Now that Cakewalk Sonar has changed so much. It might be different software in regards to the Console. I don't know...

    Hey Steve,

There are two drivers on Roland website ... One for people who only use the VS700 console (standalone) and one for those who use both the console and rack I/O together.  Only install the one that applys to your situation.

Hmmm, Craig might be right ... I looked at the download page and it appears that the second set of drivers don't have the console driver bundled so it looks like you have to flip the console into standalone mode to install the console driver separately.  Not the most user friendly process!

Roland support just told me that there is now a set of drivers for just the rack, version 2.02. Either they have just been posted or, most likely, I stupidly overlook them the first time. Either way I updated the console firmware to 1.3 1 yesterday. The rack is at 1.30. I assume I open up the Fantom and look at the about menu as it is supposed to be at 1.30 as well. Does that sound about right?

Then I can install 2.02 in the new windows 8 .1 and quit whining about it.

    I hope. <g>

    Thanks Crg and Jayson.

    Now...........where are my socks??
