dropouts
I finally got the computer up and running. X3 loaded but I am getting dropouts/ skips (its a momentary silence) no pops or craclkes in X3, and also in my Itunes. I have a usb wifi that uses Windows drivers, but I take the usb out and its still there. tried both plug in and wireless mouse and keyboard, same thing. tried every possible combo of buffers. I set the virtual memory to 9k meg. (windows recomends 7k meg) tried the buffers set in every possible combination. all computer sounds disabled, tried all the drivers (asio, mme/wdm and the other one) along with every possible combination of buffers, asio4all, removed Novation automap as i found that it was using up to 30% CPU , still didn't help. Was using the onboard sound, but got a soundcard, put that in, same thing. Since it affects both itunes and sonar, could I have missed a motherboard setting?? I occasionally get this: "Audio Dropout. The audio engine has been stopped unexpectedly." also: Missing plug in referred to by the project could not be found" "Cakewalk Analyst (bus master)" "following vst plug in could not be matched. Boost 11" (then it had the file # and clsid #) Thanks in advance

As it is happening in iTunes, suggests a basic PC problem. (I would avoid ASIO4ALL as it is a 50/50 chance of it working or not working and screwing up other devices). In the basic PC operation, make sure you have the correct sound driver installed, in this case the sound driver from ASRock. If you happen to have let Windows install the generic basic function, HD Audio Codec, remove that and install the correct sound driver. If you have the correct sound driver, Sound is on a shared IRQ (Interrupt) with a higher priority device and that can potentially be a source of dropouts in the PC audio. One thing to try is to uninstall the sound device in the Device Manager (DO NOT also uninstall the drivers) then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Sometimes this will put the sound on a different shared IRQ and eliminate the dropouts. Work on the basic PC first, then you can attack the Sonar dropout problems.

Thanks. I will try that. I think it is mobo/pc related instead of sonar related. I already deleted asio4all. right now the drivers for the sound card I bought are loaded , and disabled as everything is through the quad capture. I noticed this morning as I am killing some time before heading to work. I was playing Mah jhong ( tile game) and had itunes on, the sound would drop every time I had a screen change in mah jhong. I spent a while last night trying to find some RFI/EMI shielding. I am going to go back and make sure the power cables in the case are apart ( as much as is possible). off to work

I would avoid using iTunes for testing. Use the basic PC's audio and Windows Media Player for audio. iTunes can have its own issues.

I didnt have any luck with deleting devices and trying to force a IRQ change. I tried deleting one at a time, all at once, drivers to..still the same. So, this is what I found: the standard SATA AHC1 controller has a IRQ of x00000013 (19) the Envy 24 audio controller (sound card) has a IRQ of x00000013 (19) But....I was having this issue before I got the sound card. Also: Geo210 video card has a IRQ of x00000010 (16) Intel management engine interface has a IRQ of x00000010 (16) Intel (R) 8 series/C220 series USB EHCI #2 8C2D has a IRQ of x00000010 (16) one other interesting item I found was on the ASrock Ram disc, in the device manager under the properties window says: "This device is working properly". But, on the resources tab, it says: "This device isnt using any resources because it has a problem" So, its ok but has a problem?? Is this supposed to have a IRQ but something is wrong?? I don't know... The box to uncheck in the resources tab to change the IRQ is grayed out and you cannot select it. I think I am going to do a reinstall of X3. Or bang my head on the wall...

I was trying different settings with ASRock A tuning (asrock motherboard utility) and found the standard setting gave me drop outs, performance setting instantly killed the audio engine and power saving setting everything is working. I ran the audio tutorial file through 2 times without a dropout. Soundcloud, youtube and Itunes are playing without dropouts. Now I can figure out the boost11 issue.

Try downloading DriverBooster free from IOBit. It could be just a driver problem.Driver booster checks all the drivers in your computer and gets the newest drivers available.

I don't like the programs that check your system for drivers. First they tend to mis-identify what drivers are "needed" and second they want to charge you for drivers that you can get for free. All the "techies" on computer support forums I belong to, such as the Windows 7 and Windows 8 forums agree these types of programs should be avoided.
