The percussion synthesizer MIDI track has two sets of clips. One set is to one MIDI channel, another set is to another MIDI channel. I am trying to get this track to play two respective loop players on the Linnplug RMV multitimbral percussion synthesizer using a drum map.
More detail follows:
RMV is a multitimbral persussion synthesizer that implements one set of pads, and six loop players. These can respectively be assigned one of seven MIDI channels. I have created a synthesizer track using RMV.
MIDI out of the synthesizer track was assigned to RMV without using a drum map. However, when I did this, Sonar retreived the note values from the RMV pad (not loop palyers), which I was not using and have therefore not assigned any pad names. Consequently, all note values in the Sonar event and piano roll views were displayed as "---" since there were not names assigned. I could not edit them, at least not easily. (Via another forum, I have notified Linnplug of this anomaly, and they recognize it as a problem that must be addressed.)
So, I created a Sonar drum map that just maps the note values with no name translation. Now, the note values display as intended in the two Sonar views, and I can now edit them (which is why I want them displayed.) This works OK for a single channel/loop player track, since the drum map maps the notes to a specific MIDI channel.
However, for a multi-tinbral RMV track, this does not work. Remember, the clips in the track are separately assigned to two MIDI channels, and the drum map overrides the one that is not assigned in the drum map. So, I learned by reading the Sonar manual that I should be able to configure the drum map so that the original MIDI track assignments are used. Per the manual: "There is an option to follow the track's channel setting." I can find no such option in the drum map manager.
In the percussion portion of the piano roll viewer, however, I can assign each entry to a MIDI value range of 0-16 via the note properties. Presumably, a value of 0 would allow the track assignments to prevail. When I assign a channel value of 0, the corresponding entry in the drum map changes from the MIDI channel assignment to "drum map." However, this does not accomplish what I intended. The track plays back nothing. So, maybe that is not what a vlaue of 0 is inended to accompish.
In summary: I am trying to create a drum map in which the MIDI assignments in the constituent track MIDI clips are followed and not overridden by a drum map MIDI channel assignment.
