drum question

Sorry I don't play drums and I don't know what this means.
When I'm putting in notes, and the sheet music has above the drum score "H.O-->" and "<---H.O."  what does that mean I should have to do for the drum track in Sonar?  thank you very much.

Sorry, not familar with it so, I am just guessing ...

possibly "half-open" in reference to the high hats.

What is the context?  Is it orchestral, marching or a "chart" (i.e., pop/rock/jazz)?

Can you post a screen shot?  What is it above?  Hi-hats are usually in the first space above the staff and indicated by a little "x" plus the stem symbol for note-value.

I can't put up a picture cause the scanning won't come out.  But yeah, it's got to refer to the hats.  throughout most of the score, there's X's on the top line of the drum part for regular hats.  then some stems are marked with little O's for open hats, or little +'s for closed hats.  but for 8 measures there are brackets around a group of hats that just have H.0., similar to what a pitch shift would look like in a score with brackets and 8va or something like that.

the "official" notation for open high hat is a little o ... to indicate half-open, it should be a little o with a slash through it

but with drum stuff people do use alternative notation

I couldn't scan the page (maybe it has copy protection) but I took a crappy picture that shows what I mean.)  Of course, the bottom staff is for drums. Crash/Bass on the left, snare on C, hat on the top with the "H.O. --->"

I'm going to go with 1/2 open.
I've seen loads of drum/percussion sheet music and have never seen that.

Well, I don't know exactly what it means, but I put the notes with a slightly decay and a little reverb.  It sounds good, and while it may not be exactly what was intended in the sheet music, I'm happy with it.  Maybe someone does know, but I guess since it's music, and it sounds good, I'll stick with it.  Thanks everyone.
