You cannot use Addictive Drums sounds directly with Drum Replacer. Drum Replacer uses an sfz engine similar to Session Drummer. It can play one shot samples if you wish or sfz files containing multiple samples. The four options shown in the Kicks drop down are sfz files bundled with the package. If you are looking for additional sfz files, Session Drummer includes quite a few. If you want to create your own from Addictive Drums (or any other drum synth), Bill Jackson created a tool to simplify the process. It is called CwDrSfzMaker available http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3392713.

I typically stack kicks. I will use 3 different ones (roots, funk and metal / Whole lotta kick stinks but snare is good) blend them as needed, in my opinion make the funk (best sounding kick for say, rock) the loudest. use the volume control on the far right hand side to set the levels between all 3 samples. you can use as many as you want (1-3). as far as samples go...Steve just explained that very well so no need for me to go in to the deets.

Just because I didn't see it explicitly stated... yes, any audio from SONAR or your file system can be dropped into the sample window for one of the DR layers. That window can also be clicked to open a file open dialog that will let you pick your own files. I think FLAC, WAV, OGG, MP3, etc. should all work. Addictive Drums uses a proprietary sample format (I think), so content cannot be dropped in from the synth directly. However one of Bill's methods (or just freezing a DR track with one note for the hit you want) will work.

scook Yes, but do not use mp3 as the sample format. From http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Region_FX.05.html
Drum Replacer includes a library of replacement drum sounds, and you can also import your own sounds (.wav, .flac, .aif, .aiff, .ogg, and multi-sample .sfz files).
Right, yes, forgot about all that MP3 drama. But in regards to your CD, what you'll be doing is - Getting the track from the CD onto an audio track in SONAR (somehow...)
- Selecting the envelope of your kick sound
- Dragging the selection into DR and dropping it into the sample window

I would love to see Cakewalk partner with some awesome drum sample company and give us a full selection of killer samples for DR.

They have already teamed up with Platinum Samples, Slate and Chocolate Audio to bundle multisample libraries that can be used in DR.

I use the Sample Magic / Loopmasters stuff a lot as well. Not sure where I got it... but it has one shots that are kinda cool.

You can drag'n'drop the audio from a drum replacer region FX to a midi track. There, you can feed it into any midi instrument like addictive drums.

I clipped a sample from Aerosmiths "Walk this way". I sliced up the intro used the kick, snare, Hi hats and had myself a simple but yet fat sounding kit to use for stacking. many possibilities using DR. I keep meaning to make a video using some of my trusted methods.

This is good to know as I gave up on drum replacer because the included sounds to me were all wrong for my needs. I have sampled my own drum kit and use Session drummer to play them. So what is said here is I could also play them in Drum replacer. However I like the idea of just creating a midi track and using a proper drum synth because of the mixing options available. I have lots of recordings that use real drums that I'd like to enhance. I tried dragging an audio Snare track to a midi track and Melodyne put it in 20 different midi note values. I was going to look into this too as I think there must be a way to change a setting like we used to do with Audio Snap and assign one note.

I am a huge knack fan. Love that song as well. Really upset I never got to see them before Doug passed.

If you want to capture audio from a cd or external audio or even streaming audio you can use audacity which is free. There is info out there on how to set it up to do this. From there just save the audio and drop it into Sonar. Once there you can chop it and drop it.
