dual socket setups - computer builders chime in please
After reading some of the issues with the current crop of i7 mobos and using UAD cards, I am thinking (thinking) of building a dual socketed monster. Something like the intel Skulltrail. Anyone have any experience with these? On a dual socket system, what are the pitfalls I should be worried about if I go that way? This is a long-term evaluation thing for me. If I read somewhere that the true 8 cores were about to be released, I might wait. Thanks
Some people call me Maurice SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc. Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

Stupid question for a dual Nehalem Xeon setup (hypothetically as I'm not that rich . . .): Can SONAR address all 16-virtual Cores or do you have to turn off hyperthreading?

I wasn't speaking of the Nehalems as much as going for a pair of QX9775s.

Dude why waste money going backwards get a core i7 and UAD2 (or 2 of them) dump the stupid UAD1s, and i do not understand the need to hold on to these. however i have a demo QX9775 system i would love to sell you for like $1000 off normal price seriously the i7 does not have issues with some combos of uad cards while it does with others. UAD1PCIe is a real crap shoot UAD1 PCI is easier also depends on interface and how many and if adding a uad2..
