echo gina 24 and surround

Does anybody know how to get surround via coax digital out working with a gina 24 card to an Alesis Proactive 5.1 monitoring system. I tried using superchannel connecting digital outs 1-6 and then setting up surround in Sonar but the panning does not work properly. I can pan right front and right surround or left front and left surround but I don't get any sound when I pan to left surround and right surround only. Also, center channel only works when I pan to both front speakers(left and right). I've tried all sorts of combinations(5.1 smpte, 5.1 music/alternative) nothing seems to work right.
