editing in SD3
I was watching a video about how to edit in SD3, and I'm not getting it. It's this video (at about 5:20) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnkl_BrbrHQ&feature=related (I'm using X1 Producer). In the video he says he's dragging a loop into the Step Sequencer. But it doesn't show how he's doing it. How do you do that? Also, on his piano roll for the drums in the video, they're little squares. On mine, they're squiggly lines. Again, no idea how to program drums with that. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You can drag a midi loop from the browser into the step sequencer. Or you can drag the loop onto the SD3 midi track. edit - sorry hit reply too soon I'm not 100% sure what you mean by squiggly lines though. Have you right clicked on the mini keyboard just to the left of the track lane and selected ' fit content ' ? Notes will appear as either lines or little cyan arrows, depending on the height of your track. To increase or decrease a tracks' height in the view, either use left alt+mouse wheel up/down, left ctrl+ up/down arrow keys, or click & drag the dark grey line at the bottom of a track ( the mouse cursor will change when you're in the right position )

MoodyB - Do I just drop the loop and place it onto the sequencer? (I'm new to this stuff.) I have not tried 'fit to content.' Didn't know there was such a thing (Soooo much to learn.) By squiggly lines I mean they're 'sort of' like notes but bungled together. I tried clicking on them, but nothing happens. I will try your suggestions. Thank you for your help.

sykodelic - That was a foreign language to me. Drum map on the 'prv'?? I don't know what that means. Thanks.

first off i suggest X1 power if that does not make sense it has helped me a bunch. They are probably using a drum map in video which is why there piano roll view looks different. Go to page 737 of reference manual and it will walk you through how to set one up....You def want use on instead of piano roll view when working with drums

I am not sure what your problem is either without seeing your screen. In PRV (piano roll view), like in the video, the midi notes (trigger commands) should look like squares. In Staff View they will look like notes. Remember to use Zoom in and Zoom out when editing. Rob

greg54 MoodyB - Do I just drop the loop and place it onto the sequencer? (I'm new to this stuff.) I have not tried 'fit to content.' Didn't know there was such a thing (Soooo much to learn.) Yes. Just drop the midi part from the browser into the step sequencer view. Here's a few images which might help explain what I was trying to suggest in my previous post. In the first image, if you put the mouse cursor where I've highlighted with the red outline, and click the right mouse button, a popup menu appears where you can select ' fit content ' : The 2nd image shows how the midi sequence now looks in the tracks display after this : And the 3rd image shows how the midi sequence looks after increasing the tracks' height by grabbing & dragging down the grey seperator bar at the bottom of the track : Like yourself I'm fairly new to X1, having bought it back in December, and I personally found the Groove3 tutorial videos to be excellent for showing you around the interface & the basics of Sonar's inner workings. Either those, or the 'X1 Power' book by Scott R. Garrigus, already suggested by sykodelic, would help bring you up to speed on X1. Or both if you are feeling flush :)

MoodyB - I looked for the 'Groove 3' tutorial videos and couldn't find them on youtube. Do they have a specific name? Thanks.
