editing out background noise

i recently purchased music creator 2. i am a musician however i purchased this program to manage audio recordings from a micro cassette tape. i've got the data (~3hours worth) transferred to music creator on 1 track. is there any way to edit out the background noise from my recorded conversations? i.e. tape noise, other people talking etc. thanks for any help.

Audacity is a good choice for fre, it can take a snap shot of the back ground noise, by enlarging the wave file and finding a place between the recorded material where just background noise exist then just follow the help menu's information on noise removal.

People talking is going to be a problem, since it is a different kind of issue, if the talking happens between other sounds then you can highlight and cut it out, but if it happens during the other recorded materialthen imagine baking a cake and then wanting to remove the eggs after it is done.

thanks for the help! i downloaded the program and imported my data but i can't get it to play. it plays the entire file in a split second. as you can tell, i am new to this. if you have used the program before and don't mind, how can i slow the play back down to real time? any help is GREATLY appreciated. thanks

Blow up the wave file until you can see the spaces between the recorded sounds that are background noise only and do a noise removal procedure (go to help and get the details).
