I teach Sound Design at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh PA - tomorrow I will be building the image for my lab on brand new ultra high end HP workstations that are just what you are describing. I will be installing Sonar and Sound Forge on the workstatiions - I'll update you - we will be preparing a dual boot image of 32 and 64 bit versions of the OS - more on that later too.

    Hi Rooey,

I'm using a Dual Core "Extreme" 3.2. I've had no problems with it as far as conflicts or anything and perfromance with SONAR is excellent.

Thanks Brandon. I'd expect Cakewalk are well on top of the new chips. Good to hear you're rockin' along nicely. Sounds like you have a very tasty set up! Cool! The future for DAWs looks bright.

    Hey there Tim,

Well I was using XP64-bit with Sonar x64 basically just for testing and at shows. My 64-bit XP beta expired so I put the 32-bit XP version on with Sonar 4.03 which is what I'm currently using. This is working really well. I am in the process of acquiring a new (release) copy of XP (64 bit) at which time I will probably go back to playing with a fully 64-bit system. The only thing that really kills me about all this is the lack of 64-bit drivers for my beloved UAD1 card.

How noisy are the 10K rpm disks. Obviously very fast but are they not too noisy?

Four fans, 11 inch long video card with it's own fan - The hard drives pale to that overall environment.

That's not to say the system is loud, but it is in a lab rather than a studio environment

I was reading abuot AMD's architecture on the new dual core processors. CNET tested them and they beat Intel's processors in every test. There are other things to consider, like compatability and stability, of course, but I'm looking at AMD too.
