Good ideas, guys. In addition to the obvious benefits for mixdown, I can see some other uses for an easy individual .wav file exports. As a matter of fact, I think that the new audio features in P5 almost
demand having that feature.
One train of thought started with the
Velocity Guitar stuff, as part of a companion toolkit. We need to find a quick & reliable method of making our own samples from soft-synths, FX chains, etc. for further manipulation as samples. That provides you with a whole palette of processing modules to shape your sounds.
Say that you have a favorite patch from one of your synths. You could put together a folder of 128 'patterns'; each one contains a single MIDI note covering the entire range from C0 to G10. Make them all one measure long, for easy slip-editing. [It sounds like a lot of work, but you just have to drag the note up one semitone, then save the pattern.] Then, when you want a scale of notes that cover (for example) a two-octave range of the Super Locrian scale, you drag in the appropriately named patterns and export the 25 .wavs to their own sub-folder. You can use a similar tactic to make 'drum kits' from your own soft-synth collection.
Now you have a custom set of sampled notes from your favorite synth patch ready for import into the DS864, Cyclone, Velocity, and, yes, the new Dimension synth. It may appear like the 'long way home', but the possibilities for your synths just multiplied exponentially.
