fatal error

I get a fatal error when opening a project due to "C:prog files\cw\shared utilities\PC5-CakeSM.dll"
Can anyone tell me what it is and how I can avoid it?
Thanks very much,
Randy

EDIT: to all the funny guys: other than not opening it

    Hi Randy,

PCS-CakeSM is the prochannel saturation module - I've had exactly the same problem.

I believe it may be related to a bug (or 2 or 3) on the list of X1b fixes - prochannel has some problems with saving settings.

What I had to do to get my project open is use "Safe Mode" to open it (hold down the shift key as you open the project).

Then you'll be prompted to either load/skip the plugins in that project.
Any prochannel component that is active should be prompted for separately.

You'll need to skip loading which ever prochannel is causing the fatal error (one of the saturation modules).
Once the project is open, you'll see the settings for that prochannel strip are gone - it will be in a virgin state.

It's a bit annoying, and I've gone back to 8.5.3 because of this.
I wanted to complete my current projects in X1 using the prochannel, but it keeps on screwing up and I have to reset like this
to open the project again - defeats the puppose :-)

Good luck - let us know how you go.

    Cheers - Cliff

Please let me know if I did something wrong:
When I opened in safe mode I chose a few synths I didn't think would be a problem and then said no to the rest.
I went to the pro channel for everything and the saturation button was not on.
If PC5-CakeSM.dll is the saturation I must have inadvertently turned it on because it crashes every time but the saved version just prior to this one opens fine.
Did I not follow your instructions correctly?
    Thanks very much,
    Randy

    Hi Randy,
    +1 in cliffs post.
I think I had similar prob. Not sure of the fault code but it was a fatal ProChannel error that crashed all the way down. My ProChannel Buttons were also changing states (On/Off) without messing with them. Then when the crashes got to the point of NOT being able to launch X1, I did the Admin/Safe mode thing , got in and turned off all the PC buttons and HIT [save] until I got it straightened back out to where I could work again. In short-Your not alone thinking your hitting buttons without knowing it. LOL

I've been racking my little brain trying to remember what I did after the previous save and all I can think of was using V-Vocal (which crashed after trying to add it to a 2nd clip).
I suppose I should just work with the previous save and not use V-Vocal and hope that X1 doesn't decide I should have the saturation turned on or whatever...come on X1b!!!!!!
    Thanks Mike,
    Randy

Thanks Charlie, fortunately all of the saves prior to this one are okay so at least I don't have to start from scratch (I have about 30 hours invested)
    Thanks agin,
    Randy

Yep, save new versions frequently as you go !.
I haven't used VVocal yet, but just the prochannel issues are a killer for me.

You didn't do anything wrong - just as Mike says above, the status of prochannel modules
doesn't necessarily reflect the truth, and every time I tried using it I would eventually (usually pretty quickly)
cause a problem and corrupt the project.

I'd like to be using X1, but since the prochannel is causing reliability issues I've gone bach to 8.5
    until X1b is released.

    Good luck :-)
