230 v for VS-700C ?
Hi - got my VS-700C today, and are looking forward to get it up and running. I live in Norway, and voltage here is 230. See the AC is 117 V ( 50/60 hz, 0.31 A) on the back of the console. I'm not an electrician. What do I do? Don't want to blow the thing up.

Hi Trallala, Welcome to the Forums. I have the V studio 700 system and I am based in Australia and our voltage is 240V AC. Now I have checked my console and it says 240V. Where did you get this from? Overseas? Now some equipment have power supplies that can cope with a range of voltages from 110V to 240V. But be careful please and you MUST check with Cakewalk before switching this on otherwise you may blow it up for sure. The Specs on page 173 of your manual states the voltages can be from 117V 230V and 240V. The fuse may need to be changed and that is all but please once again check with Support. Have you got the VS700R as well. It would be a similar situation.

Hi Jeff - and thanks. Yes, got it from Sweetwater in the US. Have bought other things like preamps, compressors and mic's form US shops before, and they have always been prepared for european voltage. It's a pain waiting to try it (just have the console), but I gues I have to wait till I've cleared it with Cakewalk support.

It might just be a simple matter of opening it up and setting the voltage which may be done with some sort of switch or plug that you pull and turn and put into a new position. And a fuse change as well. A lot of newer things these days do have auto voltage detecting power supplies but the fuse would have to be changed for sure. The higher voltage requires a fuse of a lesser current rating. You were wise to check on the forums first before turning it on. Once you get it going you can talk to us here for advice about the unit. We can help. Be patient, it is well worth it and you will love it for sure. It is a very cool way to control Sonar Software.

Alright - I live in the middle of nowhere, so it will take some days to get hold of the parts - and I'm terrible with the inside of electronics. I'm really dissapointed right now, but glad for your help. Just have to wait for the US to wake up - and I'll call Cakewalk for additional info.

POST EDITED: Called Cakewalk who said the 700C is ok up to 240 v. I'll have a try.... Correction: Just got a mail from support, and the weren't quite so shure anymore. As long as i was labeled 117 V, they asked me to use a power converter "to be on the safe side." We'll see how it goes.

Thats is great. I am glad to hear it. The internal fuse (if there is one!) is obviously not an issue either as it would still blow under bad circumstances anyway. Good to know it has a smart powersupply. Enjoy!

Ok - Question nr. 2, 3 and 4. The driver/software disc i broken in two ( there was a big hole in the box the 700C came in, it has obviously dropped during shipping, and I've given info and pics to Sweetwater about that - but the console seems alright, so I'll give it a try ) 2. Anyway, I need to download software and drivers, I guess the 32-bit xp driver is the way to start. Right? 3. Is the control plug-in a part of that driver or do I need download that too? Couldn't find it on the download page. 4. The disc also says it contains Rapture and Rapture expansion packs. I believe it's just the LE version in PE 8.5. Does the 700c come with a full version of that software? It's a mess - I know. I'll get better.

Ok - the voltage part went well: It's ok with 230 V. From support: The power supply does indeed accept both voltages and no internal hardware changes to your VS-700C are necessary. The sticker on the outside does not reflect the fact that it does indeed accept 117-240 volts. However, officially you will still want to purchase the correct Power (IEC) cable for European outlets to avoid breaking your warranty and risk damaging your unit. Thanks to support for handling this quickly

Alright - downloaded the XP driver, get the setup going, (power up the console - see the welcome screen, 700c i detected) but xp will not find the driverfile, even if I show XP exactly where it is. (Have checked the "ignore driver signing" box in System) Got a feeling I've been here before somehow. Ends up reenstalling OS i guess... Well, it's late. I'll try again tomorrow.

It is the Le version of Rapture on 8.5. Now I must reinstall the full version of Rapture to get the stand alone Synth. Why do I hate upgrades? I don't know.

Hey Craig, Haven't been around the forum much lately due to work schedule and travel, plus, when I get the time, I've been "holed up" trying to get a handle on the V700 system and Sonar. Things are going smoothly in that regard. All I can say is that I'm impressed with the entire setup; the integration of hardware and software, workflow, etc. I've got a long way to go before I'm operating near the level that some of you guys are at, but I'm working hard at it. This thing is much better than my experiences a few years ago with some other systems. My question: I haven't upgraded to 8.5.1 yet; still running 8.3.1 and having a great timewith it so far. Are you still having problems with your upgrade? Would you recommend that I go ahead and install the upgrade (I downloaded it)? I've read on some other threads that some are having problems and some are not. Being in the learning phase, I really don't want software/hardware problems at this point (been there before). Been reading the Sonar Producer thread, but that thread is not a place for the timid or a Sonar newbie like me. I need some more time with Sonar before I jump in the fray :) Thanks for any feedback!

Haven't figured out how to disable every function in AVG (my antivirus programme) but AVG have never caused problems during installation before, so I don't suspect it so far. Any way of tricking, forcing, persuading the driver to install?

I would most certainly reccomend you upgrade to 8.5.1. I really don't think you'll run into the problem I'm having which is clearly a missing driver file or something. Everything works fine in 8.5.1, the missing primary outputs on the Fantom has to be an update problem. It still works through the other set of outputs so I'm not real concerned. I'm sure there will be a fix for whatever is causing it.

From the manual it seems there are two drivers on the installation disc, one for 700 and one for 700C - is that so? In the downloadable version there is only one that I can see. (For 700?) Can this be the problem? If so - are there anyone with the disk who could copy the 700c XP driver and send it to me?

It seems there is a problem with the two versions-downloaded and Disc copy. I don't think you want to get the V700C XP driver from any source other than Cakewalk. Is your info. from examining the manual and the files in the download ? There are differences between the two? Examine the files in the download again, they should be in a folder, open the folder and post what is there.
