[Track] God bless the child
I put up a pretty nekid song using the VS100 on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/rm101 Not really a P5 song but Blipp likes Dickie's guitar work and if anyone is interested in the VS100 the tracking was straight in using DI and preamps in the box. Version of the old Billie Holiday song. The vox was supposed to be a demo - it was sung in the room w/ the guitar rhythm take, but Mary liked it so well she didn't want to do any more takes. A note for all you producer types - singers might give the best performance if they don't think it is a real "take." @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

WOW! This is raw talent..the guitar...the vocalist... stunning! Who is Dickie? Who is Mary? Who is keeping score?! This sounds awesome! (guitar sounds very warm...maybe too warm (out of focus)!?)

DA, dickie is a local guy that plays in my wife's church jazz band. I've done a couple of their recordings using the VS-100 (in this case) and the -700 earlier. Mary is the singer, my wife. She does my electro stuff, too. I ran the DI'ed rhythm guitar into a guitar sim but Dickey liked it plain. I also used my TC Konnect's reverb on an earlier version, but for technical reasons ended up using a plug-in. That didn't sound as good, but I just got sick of messing w/ the song. At 5 minutes it is a bit long to listen to 50 times trying to get everything to work. I mean, if I have a dozen tracks to play w/ I can keep interested, but three and I get bored and can't tell if things are getting better or worse. Glad you like it. And glad to see you posting some stuff. This forum is so empty I could have used the echo in here on the song if the tempo matched. ;-)

+1 to the comments on this, guitar and vox are very nice and chilled! Just curious, what kind of mic did you use for the vocals? They sound very well recorded. This is more subjective than anything but I do feel the guitar could be boosted just a little bit in the mix to support the vox a little more. Very nice work by all of you on this one!

Rewir3d, I used an Oktava 319 for the vox straight into the VS 100 I was testing. And yea, the rhythm guitar could probably come up a tad. I just got kinda sick of mixing, since I put a amp sim on it but the guitarist didn't like it. I was also trying to run the reverb on my TC Konnect 48 (a very nice bit of hardware I must say) but had to record the mixdown live to get it. It won't bounce, even as a vst and I'd get some glitches at times live. After a couple of different mixes I got tired of the glitch hassle, took the amp sim off and used a plug in reverb. The guitar is not quite as bright and cutting now and sounds lower. I might go back, now. Thanks for the confirmation. Thanks all for the listen. @

This is very nice, AT! Your wife always sounds so incredible and her voice really shines in this piece. The guitar playing is nice and very warm as mentioned. I could listen to this one over and over - very loungy and relaxing. Nice production as well - it really captures the intimacy of the performances. Beautiful!

Love your wifes voice. Very laid back track. Nice work on the recording side. sounds good. I was actually thinking about the VS100 for a future buy. :)

The VS100 is a nice bit of kit. It stands out as a controller, esp. the fader. The audio part is up to snuff in the price range - it is as good as the rest of the stuff out there. And you can use it as a simple live mixer and playback. Hard not to like the package. Look for the review in Tape Op soon. And thanks for the kind words about the song. I'm going to have to stop passing them on to the wifey, or she might start charging me to sing ;-)
