Windows 7 and Sonar 6

Ok, just bought a brand new HP Pavilion 2.6GHz, 6 GB RAM computer and Sonar 6 is not able to play anything without dropping out.  I'm pretty sure my Realtek sound card should be sufficient but any ideas what else could be the problem?

No, sorry, the realtek is not sufficient.  you might be able to get it to work without dropouts and I can try to help you with that, but the realtek is just a chip on the motherboard and the drivers are not written for low latency.  my BEST advice is to upgrade your soundcard.  PCI if you have a desktop and USB or Firewire if you have a laptop.  see my website for soundcard recommendations.

to try to stop the dropouts on the realtek, in SHS6, go to OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED and change the driver mode to MME.  then click OK, then it will tell you the application needs to be restarted, close SHS, reopen SHS and it will ask if you want to run the wave profiler.  say YES.  then go back to OPTIONS>AUDIO>GENERAL and move the latency slider to the SAFE side.  click OK.

that might stop your dropouts for now.

I have Vista and SHS6, running on a Pentium dual-core, with a Realtek audio.  Leave the advanced driver mode in WDM, then:

Options | Audio | Buffer size --> slide it all the way over to SAFE.

It then shows as effective latency 349.2 msec for me, and there was no more choppy sound, slowdown in playback, MIDI playing before the staff displays the notes, etc.

This is just one person's experience.

Yes,  I just updated to a new computer with Windows 7 and Sonar 8.  My audio is great with the Realtek installed.  Also, the audio on this Acer 7736z-4809 is stunning!  However, my Faderport will not work.  Is this a windows 7 or Sonar 8 issue?

    Thanks,
