How do I record my keyboard?

I've been reading the keyboard manual and cakewalk manual but I'm still having trouble recording. Any ideas on how to go about this?

Hate to do this to you, but we need details. What kind of keyboard? What type of soundcard/inputs to the computer?

We can't see what you are looking at

and in addition to what gamblerschoice is asking, specifically are you trying to record AUDIO or MIDI?  and if AUDIO, do you have cables connecting the keyboard to the soundcard?  and if MIDI, do you have MIDI cables connected to the computer and exactly how?

Oh yeah sorry about that but I have a Casio WK-200. I want to record MIDI and I'm using a USB cable to connect it to my computer. As for the soundcard, it's just the one that came in my laptop so it's not that great.

ok, but we could still use some more details on exactly what you've tried to do that doesn't work.  you say you've read the manual on the keyboard and cakewalk but can't get it to work, so that means you've tried something.

have you set up your Casio / USB cable in MC as a MIDI device INPUT or OUTPUT?  if not, do that - go to: OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES and select the CASIO as an input.

can you select it as an INPUT on the INSTRUMENT track that comes up with the default project file?

Yes, can you tell us the EXACT connections that you have set up and how / what you've tried thus far that hasn't worked.  Are you wanting to play the keyboard and just have MC record what you are playing?  Or is there something more to it?  I just looked up this model number and Does the keyboard also have the ability to record?  Have you done that and if so, do you know what kind of files it makes? (i.e. whats the file extension?)

Hopefully getting these details will make it easier.

check my web site... I have posted some info there on midi setup that might help you get going.  However, It will be easier on you if you had a better interface (soundcard) other than the lappy card.

I believe you might be able to get the lappy card to work, but the delay (latency) will be killing you. The real solution to that is a decent interface....see Beagle's site for a listing of cards that will work.

edit/add: recording audio from the speaker/headphone output of the keyboard might actually work better and be easier to do with the lappy card...... but it won't let you edit the recorded material like midi will.
