My old tracks won't play, only the new ones...what's up with that?

I encountered a strange glitch in my HS7XL this week-end. I did some sound checks on a NEW project and it all worked fine. Play back was flawless. I then opened up some previous sound checks from a few weeks ago and added a mic test to a new track. It plays fine. Yet, the other tracks won't play.

I've muted and un-muted, closed the program, re-booted, checked the Mixer on the Presonus, checked the Sounds in my control panel, tinkered wih the settings, and I can't see anything that looks wrong. Something must be right for the NEW tracks to play.

Right now I can't get any of my old tracks to play. Or my WAV files OR my mp3 files either for that matter. This seems like a weird gremlin or out-of-whack proton running loose in the computer, but I'm sure it has a logical explanation. Have any of you encountered such a thing, and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks!

Beagle is that you in the orange cap with the T on it? Proud Ole Miss grad here (sorry, couldn't resist...good natured humor of course).

I had checked the main controls with no success. Later I went into the individual tracks and all of the previously recorded ones had the Output set to NONE. I have no idea what electronic glitch caused this, maybe a power surge or a power outage that made the machine shut down improperly, but it changed the settings in every old track I have. Now it will just be the tedious task of re-setting them individually as I use those projects again.

Still no luck with the mp3's or Wavs however.

Thanks for the suggestion. It may come in handy down the road.

Don - yes, that's me and yes, I'm a TN alumnus and yes, Ole' Miss spanked us this weekend!  If Ole' Miss had a quarterback they'd be unstoppable with McCluster on the receiving end!  anyway - I digress!

if windows loses the firebox or if the firebox is not plugged in when you open SHS then all of your outputs will be set to "none" (unless you still have your onboard soundcard enabled, in which case it would be set to it), so at some point that's probably what happened.

what are you trying to play your mp3's with?  SHS?

And to think that in the pre-season they were saying QB Snead would be a legitimate Heisman candidate next year. I don't know what's happened to him. Hot and cold, mostly cold it seems. He's from down your way in Texas and I think originally signed with Texas. Thanks for the Congrats. This is the first time we've beaten UT in Oxford, a stat that surprised me.

That's interesting info about the firebox and re-setting everything. I'm still trying to remember what I could have done to cause it.

The mp3's are saved in their own folder, so are the WAVS. I'm not trying to use HS7, I just open then folder, click a song, and it shows that the song is playing, but there is no sound. I've gone in everywhere I can think of to adjust settings but so far nothing has worked. I can't think of what else to try, but the magic button is still yet to be discovered.

Back to the mystery of the hum. I finally isolated it to a mic as I told you a month or so ago. Oddly, the thing started working perfectly again. I took it to Nashville and it played fine there. I brought it home and the hum started again. I finally gave up, made a recording when it was humming and put it on a CD, took a chance and sent the out-of-warranty mic and CD back to the company. The next week I received several very nice emails and the next week I received a brand new mic. How's that for people doing the right thing!

    Thanks for the info!
