Crossfades...yet another way to ask the question...
Well lads, I'm scratching my head over how to do the following: I have 1 track: I record a bit of a keybd pad. I want to copy the clip, and duplicate it multiple times on the same track. So, I CTRL A & select all(of the clip) and with "Enable Automatic Crossfades" on, Blend Old and New on I paste where my mouse entry point is(right near the end of the existing clip: juuust before it's end point): I have , Repetitions 5 or whatever... I end up with nice clear 'blips' right at the crossing point. Am I supposed to nudge it to just where it touches the previous clip, versus pasting it ONTO the existing clip? I've tried figuring out how to do a crossfade on that blip section after the paste, but that's not going well.. What would you do? Thanks for any help ... Rich

If you're using a metronome or MIDI drum beat to record to, you can right-click the clip and choose Groove Clip Looping. The edges of the clip will become bevelled to show that it's now a Groove Clip. You can then grab either end of the clip and drag it out as far as you want, and if the original clip was in time, the groove clip will be in time as far as you drag it. But if the clip extends into the next measure even a little bit, or begins before the first beat of the measure, the Groove Loop will become more out of time as the song plays. You can edit a clip so it's exactly X number of measures long, though. I don't know much about crossfades, but I'm not sure that's what you want anyway.

hmm never used groove thingy.. Maybe I'm not using the right terminology. Essentially, I wanna (try) to make a smooth transition between to audio clips on the same track. Example: I have a punch -in, and the punched-in audio, now has a "blip!" where it was...punched in. How do you NOT have that blip? over

Rich...welcome..... you said: I have 1 track: I record a bit of a keybd pad. I want to copy the clip, and duplicate it multiple times on the same track. I've tried figuring out how to do a crossfade on that blip section after the paste, but that's not going well.. What would you do? Here's what I would do.... If I wanted to do that... I would insert a second audio track.... copy the original clip and paste it into the second track so it overlaps the first (according to your needs and wants).... then paste it further along in the first track again over lapping...alternating back & forth as many times as I needed. I have found that trying to butt 2 clips together, or over lap them causes one to "move" out of place...so I tend not to try to copy & paste too much..... but if I really need to do it, I'd use a second audio track.... after all... during the playback, as long as both tracks are at the same level, you will not hear any difference, and you can use enveolpes to fade in one clip as the other is enveloped to fade out.... no clicks, just sweet music.

To get rid of the blip in the track use an volume envelope and drop the volume down to zero during the blip.

Hacker: thanks : I'll file that one away Tap: I've not seen that one yet..I'll check it out. I figure, folks have GOT to be doing punch-ins somewhere out there, and if so, I'd love to know if there's a setting I'm overlooking that will provide an automated smooth transition point..maybe not: just curious. I'll play some more. Thanks again lads, Rich

I used punch-in a lot in my jazz thing "On The Beach". Didn't have any blips or pops. Check out Dropouts and Other Audio Problems in the help file section called Improving Audio Performace. It could be a buffer issue. Try some of the tips in there, see if it helps.

I use punch in & out all the time. I think (I'm not on the DAW computer right now) that there is a set up window where you can tell the platform to begin the punch in/out, and splits also at the Zero Crossing of the audio wave form. At that point in the wave form, there is NO sound. So.... any punches and splits at ZERO will not have a click. The click is cause by the sudden rise from Zero (silence) to a value either above the zero or below it as the punch in begins. This window would be in the Audio options.... (my best guess as to where to look first)

Hey guys I'm glad to see this thread as I've had several projects where this same effect got to be a problem for me too. Greg, I definately have seen the problems with two audio clips bumping each other and altering the groove clip line, and resulting in a blip sound and not giving me a seamless matchup. Herb, your solution sounds ideal and I'm sure that alternating with a second track, would solve that problem. And after all, once both tracks are set up the way we want, we can easily bounce it down to a single audio track again. I'm very glad this came up and I'll remember that work-around. Thanks!!

Rich - these guys are steering your right, but I have a question, since your login name is "celticpiping" - does that mean you play bagpipes? what kind? have you recorded them? if so, what did you use to record them? do you have any samples of your work?
