Removing HomeStudio after upgrade

I just upgraded from HomeStudio 6 to Studio 8.5, which went into a separate installation as expected.

Now I want to remove the old HomeStudio installation.   But the HS and Studio installations have some shared files, such as the templates, demo files, and the VST directory.  Will using the Control Panel to remove HS leave those shared directories alone?

SONAR 8.5 may require a reinstall after SONAR 8.x is removed.  Uninstalling SONAR 8.0, 8.0.1, 8.0.2, 8.3, 8.3.1 or the trial edition may remove some components of SONAR 8.5.  To retain full functionality SONAR 8.5 must be re-installed after uninstalling the previous version.

In other words you should uninstall everything and start again.
It would be a good idea to make copies of the "shared files templates, demo files, and the VST directory" (especially the ones you modified and want to have available in the new program) before you uninstall them (taking notes of their location) and then paste them in the same folder or similar folder in the new installation.
