VSampler 3 Sustain Pedal

Hi all,

Just joined - first message...

I've been trying to get a handle on VSampler. So far I've got it to play a nice grand piano, but the sustain padal doesn't seem to be working. I use a Kawai K1 as a keyboard controller, and its sustain pedal works fine through SOANR and into my Roland JV-880 hardware synthesizer, but when I go through SONAR into VSampler it isn't working. I assume there must be some sort of enable for it, or something, but I can't seem to find it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I saw an answer to this in the newsgroup (I believe), And the individual who started the thred replied back stating that the answer they were given worked. I cant remember exactly what it was, but at the time I knew I would be running into the same problem soon, so I made a mental note that the answer is "out there somewhere" to be found when I need it lol...

Anyways im just dropping ya a line to let YOU now know that the answer IS out there heh...and if I stumble across it again ill post it here =)

    Peace

I ran into the same problem with my Roland keyboard. They send an "all notes off" when the last key is released on the keyboard. I believe the MIDI spec stipulates that the sustain pedal should override the all notes off message. Vsampler, however, treats an all notes off as a "all sounds off", cutting everything off even if the sustain pedal is pressed. You may notice that the sustain pedal does indeed work until you let go of the last key you pressed. You can work around this by mapping the "all notes off" (controller #123) message to a RPN/NRPN #3FFF (NULL) in the "Options>MIDI>Preferences>Controller Map" section of Vsampler3. I'm hoping the Vsampler folks fix this eventually, as this feature does tend to protect you against stuck notes, which is why Roland did it. Let me know if this works for you or not.

    Hi Chris,

Yes, this has resolved my problem! I hope this is a "permanant" configuration change, rather than something I need to do each time I use VSampler - but I'll find that out next time I use it. And, yes it would be great if the VSampler developers implemented this correctly in an upcoming version or patch (soon?).

Anyway - PROBLEM SOLVED!! Thanks so much,

The configuration change is permanent - at least until you change it again.
