Rain

Ya'll remindied me of something I've wanted to do for awhile, but forget. The posts about storms and recording in the rain reminded me that I want some rain sounds. I don't know why or when I'll need them, and I could probably download them from somewhere.
It's raining here now, and the TASCAM Portastudio is happily at work capturing that sound as I write.
Thanks!

Cool!  It's NOT raining here and I'm happily not recording it.  Maybe you can send me yours if I ever need them. :-)

    Janet,

I'd rather have your non-recordings for my planned cover of the "The Sounds of Silence".

Sure thing. Got about 13 minutes of it in SHS now.
By the way, your son sure has been getting artistic with your recent photos. I like them.

Perhaps you should mail Mike the results save him catching a cold in future.

We had a couple of storms here in the last few days and I'm gonna leave you guys to do the recording work, once I've battened down the hatches I don't go anywhere except to peek behind the curtains now and then to check the sea wall hasn't been breached.

I'll see if I can leave a dictaphone running if I ever need to call the coast-guard rescue helicopter though.

Why did that one particular vid have to be so loud. Its Six AM and I clicked that then had to scramble to turn it off in case I wake the whole darn building. Jeeze

    Sorry Shad

Still, it doesn't matter what anyone says, you can't beat a bit of 70's Status Quo.

I've been jamming that one with SidStrummerUK for over 25 years now - it's a great song to play

Other cracking early Quo stuff we like to play:

Crank it up Shad - you know you want to

Thanks Greg. :-)  It's amazing what someone can do with a pro camera and Photoshop.  Well, actually, they use Lightroom now.

Anyway, I bet your recordings sound cool.  It's just that we had about a month of clouds and rain and this last sunny week and a half has been amazingly refreshing.

Glad to hear that, Shad.  Too many days without sunshine can drive us crazy.  I know it's been hard for you.  It doesn't take long for me either.

Arg... it finally stopped raining here, too. I loved it at first, but after stepping into a puddle the size of Lake Tahoe yesterday, I kinda changed my mind.

Hey Greggo & any other rain searchers out there, you gotta download this
    http://www.freesound.org/.cksViewSingle.php?id=147

To download, login as "notembug", password "bugmenot"

Quite a selection of cd quality wav files. I've used a few myself after abandoning my own attempts to record thunder... the mic kept falling off the kite

Well, it's still raining here; something to with a hurricane somewhere...
I wish I could have gotten some thunder on the rain recording though.

I had similar idea about 20 years ago during a thunderstorm.  The power was out but my Fostex X-15 had a battery pack.  So I hooked it up, set the mic in the window and recorded.  My wife and I sat looking out the windows while the storm raged, sirens in the distance.  After a bit it calmed and we were caught off guard by a lingering bit of lightening/thunder and you can hear us yell like little kids in surprise on the tape and then laughing.

I used that thunder in a tune I did (also a long time ago).......and it really sucked (not the thunder).
