Gulftown processor?

Was over in another music forum site (duc) and ran into a discussion of a new Intel processor - Gulftown. Googled it and found out it's a to-be-released 6 core chip. That's GOT to have some monster power behind it.

Who in the heck comes up with these names anyway? Harpertown, Gulftown, etc.?

An interesting read here  Few pages in someone posted bogus information, but the original poster is legit.  2010 will be an interesting year for CPU's.  Imagine Sonar with 12 or 24 physical cores.
Might not beat Intel Gulftown, but it looks like it will give it a run for its money. Consumers win with the competition.

Thanks for the link - interesting read. I've always been a huge fan of AMD chips. They seem to do math oriented stuff faster than equivalent or slightly faster-clocked Intel chips. Wish them well. The only thing I worry about with that many cores on a single die is heat dissipation. I don't think a simple massive fan on top is going to cut it anymore. System designers might have to go the route gamers that overclock have gone for years - liquid cooling.

"Imagine Sonar with 12 or 24 physical cores."

    I think that's called TDM.
