Windows 7 and firewire--need advice on this issue and TI chip

I noticed a lot of instances of "events ID51
"An error was detected on device %1 during a paging operation" in the Windows event logs after copying files to and from my external HDDs via firewire. I looked this up on the Windows forums and found this thread.  The solution proposed in the third post down worked for the OP, but I don't know whether or not to try it. It involves choosing a different "legacy" driver for the FW controller.  I am unsure what this would do vis-a-vis the TI chipset. It might be better for FW drives but worse for FW audio--or does the TI chipset do its thing with either driver?
Anyone know? This is a brand-new install and I don't want to frak it up...

    Hi

    Depends what soundcard you have. Some manufacturers have come out with W7 drivers.

    I have a Firestudio 26x26 and a TI chipset firewire driver on a PCI card. Presonus haven't yet come out with a W7 driver yet, so using the XP and VISTA you can use the legacy drivers no problem. Its how you get the FS to work in W7.

    I have the M-Audio Firewire 410. They just came out with the Windows 7 drivers (I think they are the same as the last beta version, which I used with Win 7 RC). The same driver version is also listed as the Vista SP 1 and SP 2 driver, however, so I guess that means it would work. I may try swapping my current FW card, which is PCIe, for the PCI one from my last system and see if I get the same issue. I had gotten a PCIe card for the faster interface, but the PCI slot has its own IRQ, which is good too.
    If the FS needs a TI chip and has no problem with the legacy drivers, I guess the TI chip does its thing regardless...

    RME recommended that change at first, but they released new drivers about the time I got my new system that no longer require the Legacy driver.  I've read that this is recommended for FireWire audio cards in most scenarios and that the RME is the first and possibly only card that is not recommended to use the Legacy driver in Windows 7. 

    I left mine using the TI drivers because I have the RME FireFace 400 with the new drivers, but I believe most sound cards are recommended to use the Legacy driver.  The TI chipset should do it's thing fine with the Legacy driver.

    They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing.

    Thanks, Genghis. I've since found this mentioned on the M-Audio forums; seems some folks had BSODs which were solved by using the legacy driver.
    Can't find anmything specific from M-Audio on the matter, but that's not surprising.
    I haevn't had the BSOD yet, but I haven't been running the latest FW410 drivers or Win 7 RTM that long...I figure I'll err on the side of caution and try the legacy OHCI driver. I can always switch back if I need to.

    Switching to the legacy drivers solved BSODs with my FW-410 and also enabled me to use my Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2!!!

    Even though the FW-410 has a Win 7 driver, using legacy mode has stopped the random BSODs on my machine.
