I bought it. You have to jump through a few hoops to download the parts and install them but I finally managed to get it working. Now if I can just figure out how to use multi outs....

Not a bad part of the site to go as there are quite a few deals advertised there for the benefit of Sonar users. And the good news is there is no inner circle there - well I've never seen them there in years. Think they left for Reaper years ago.

I must admit I haven't been through the manual yet as I just finished the installation. I'm sure I'll figure it out but it's nice to know there are some Kontakt experts onboard!

I have Kontakt but I use it a bit like Sonar - in a basic way.

Oaf seems to know the finer details of what you can and can't do.

Are you kidding me, Kontakt multi outs in Sonar?. Try it in the Reaper and see how multi outs can do your head in! Kontakt in Sonar?...a cakewalk (excuse the pun).

I have no problems getting multi outs from other patches or synths...As I said, I haven't checked the SSD manual yet so I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing...

Sorry papa2005, no intention to deride you or any Kontakt users. I haven't downloaded SSD EX yet so it may have some peculiarities.
You should be able to just add the Kontakt VSTi to a track and add extra Midi & Audio tracks assigning the midi input to that VSTi on that track and audio outs for that particular VSTi to Kontakt out1 or 2 etc.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to tell Kontakt which version to insert (ie, you can't just 'add' outputs on the fly)
But that's not a big problem, it's just picking the right multi-out version before inserting into Sonar.

True, I took this as a given. You DO need to stiplulate the number of output you want, then it's just a matter of routing the MIDI and Audio.

Cross posting my question from the software forum.

As I understand it this comes with a version of Kontakt Player 3. I already use Kontakt Player 4 (64 bit) It looks like Steven Slate Drums will work with the Kontakt 4 player http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=kontaktplayer2&cat=2 but can any one confirm this.

Well, I just checked the manual...It has explicit instructions on how to do it in PT, CB, and Logic...I've emailed them asking for instructions on how to accomplish this with SONAR PE 8.5.3 and will wait (obviously a few hours considering the time *LOL*) to see what their response is...

i have 3 versions of kontakt player installed when i d/l it - think it's stereo out, 8 out and 16 out but can't swear to it. this was updating to player 3.5 after getting player 2 with the drum masters group buy. you need to pick the right one when loading it.

    Re:SSD EX No Brainer 2010/02/20 12:08:25 (permalink)
This is my usual setup for working with multi-out drums in Kontakt. Unfortunately, I'm using Kontakt 3.5 so I don't know if it's different for 4, and also I'm using Steven Slate Drums LE (don't think there's any difference except the number of included kits, but not entirely sure on that).

From the synth rack, I insert an instance of Kontakt (not the 16out, just the one that says Kontakt). From the insert synth properties page under create these tracks I select "MIDI source", "synth track folder" and "All Synth Audio Outputs: Stereo" and click ok. It then creates a track folder with 16 stereo outs from kontakt and a midi track.

Then from the Kontakt window I select whichever drum multi I want from ssd in the library. The kit loads with all the sounds being routed to just the first or main stereo output.

Then from the "Outputs" mixer section in Kontakt, I click on the "conf." under the second track (usually for the snare). Then under the channel output configuration window I click on the physical out for channel 01 and select the 3rd option from the drop down. For me it reads "KT aux 1[1]". The physical out should now say "plugin out #3". Then I click on the physical out for channel 02 and select the fourth option (this reads "KT aux 1[2]"). So now channel 2 reads "plugin out #4". Click ok to apply the changes. Then click on the button towards the top of the "outputs" mixer view in kontakt that says "Reset Out Map." This will change all the output of all channels to follow sequentially. So now each channel strip will be routed to a separate track in the kontakt folder in sonar. Then all you have to do is delete the unused channels in the track folder. For me with the steven slate drums, this is usually the last four tracks.

    Hope that helps some,
    -Jon

    Re:SSD EX No Brainer 2010/02/20 12:29:02 (permalink)
I bought it a couple of nights ago.  You can get the outputs to work the way you want, but yes, it's a pain in the ass.  Mostly because the Kontakt mixer outputs change visually as you start assigning outputs and gets really ugly and confusing.  It looks like we pretty much have to create templates since all of the kits default to a stereo pair.  The output settings are not global, so even after you get it all dialed, when you change to a different kit it goes back to a stereo pair.

I can translate the output naming scheme.  I'm getting ready to do a drum session though, so I'll have to do it later.  I created a template for the "Three Snare Kit".  I'll upload it later tonight if I get a chance.
