If you got FxChorus and FxDelay to work under Windows 7 64 bit, please reply.

Hello,

I switched to Windows 7 64bit about a week ago. Thanks to many helpful hints (Thank you folks!) I got almost everything to run.
With dxshell I got SoundStage and NI Bandstand to work.
However, I cannot make some older Sonar plugins (FxChorus, FxDelay etc.) work. I have found posts where other users report the same issues.

I understand that there are better plugins available.  That is not the point. My point is that I would like to be able to load older projects!!! Looking at error messages freaks me out. I own every Sonar release form 2.0 to 8.5, and Sonar is supposedly supporting 64bit.

If you have a solution, please let me know.

Thanks a lot,

Wilko

I'm not in Win 7 but in Vista 64-bit...Tried the dxshell thing myself...Finally mananged to get older DX effects to show up in the CW Plugin Manager...Created a "New Folder" and added those plugins to it then saved the layout...When I try to open one I get an error message that states "This plugin is only licensed to be used in Cakewalk Project 5..." or "This plugin is only licensed to be used in SONAR..." depending on the plugin I select...

    1) I've never used Project 5 yet the plugins worked (and were included) in SHS 6XL (which is still installed on my system)...

    2) I am trying to use it in SONAR...A licensed and registered version of 8.5.3 so I don't understand the error message...

I suppose I'll file a tech support inquiry to see if there's a way to make this happen in 64-bit...THe only one I'm really concerned with is StudioVerb2...

DXShell is running the plugins out of process like a mini host. Some of our older plugins handshake with the host to determine if they are authorized to run. If DXShell doesn't do this the plugins will fail to load/run.

Thanks for the response Noel...Any possibility of CW addressing this issue in the future?

Where I get confused is the "...only authorized to run in SONAR..." or "...only licensed to run in Project 5..." (which I've never had) yet they ran fine in SHS 6XL...

Is there a workaround that you're aware of that might allow the use of some of the older plugins?

How might DXShell do this? Some sample code would be helpful, and we could pass it on to the developer.

Or can the Fx... and Studio... plugins be updated to avoid this problem?

They both work fine on Windows 7 64-bit using the 32-bit version of Sonar Producer 8.5.3. They are not recognized under the 64-bit version of Sonar.

We currently don't have any plans of writing a 32 bit to 64 bit bridge for DX plugins.
If the developer is interested have him contact me and I can send him the information on how to handle passing through the the host to plugin handshake via COM.
Also note that you can always run the 32 bit version of SONAR on X64 and not have to deal with the wrapping issue with DX plugins.

Thanks for that advice, Noel...Will try to formulate an acceptable workflow when I feel the need...I'm really only interested in StudioVerb2 because I have spent hours creating custom presets that are easy on CPU and don't cause a problem during tracking...

I'm really only interested in StudioVerb2

Plus it's a killer sounding little plug.  A wee gem.  I'd mourn the loss of that in the name of progress.

    Jonbouy,

I agree. I've used it on final mixes (in fact, several instances of it) and my system doesn't bat an eye...I have choruses, delays and stuff out the wazoo...But replacing SV2 (not to mention ALL the custom presets I created) hasn't been easy...

Easy workflow is load the project in the 32 bit version of SONAR, freeze the track containing StudioVerb and then switch back to the 64 bit version of SONAR.

    Noel,

I considered that option but that limits my options for making adjustments to send levels or FX parameters within SV2...I know I can do it the way you suggest but it's not the ideal solution...Thanks for the contribution, though...

    Noel,

Are you saying that I can install Sonar 8.5 32bit and Sonar 8.5 64bit on the same system, i.e. the same installation of Window 7 64bit? Will they even run at the same time?

    Thanks,

    Shadow,

Yes you can install both versions. Haven't tried opening them both at the same time but I suppose you could.

Okay, so that might be a viable workaround. Thanks a lot!
