Or maybe we nicked things from Project5. FX Chains, Docked browser, single UI model, inspector, Matrix, Arp and so on. If I am not mistaken P5 came out way before PreSonus launched Studio One. Robin

I never liked the P5 interface so I hope you're wrong. Read the thread again. Robin stated that a lot of what they are porting over to Sonar originally existed in P5. So no, I'm not wrong. It's already happened. While I don't want Sonar to end up looking like P5, it's obviously now beyond the original P5 design as far as functionality. There were aspects of P5 that I missed, and it looks like they're finally in Sonar.

They all "pinch" from each other whether intentional or not. Looking at the excellent X1 videos put up, to me X1 looks like a combination of Logic, Studio One and Samplitude which in my mind is a very good thing! If this thing works well, and I have no reason to believe it won't, I suspect Cake is going to have a huge hit on their hands here. Talk on the other boards is very positive and even some of the biggest anti-cake fans are saying positive things about X1. That 'other company' with the dongle had better get their act in gear because programs like Sonar, Studio One and Reaper are passing them in features, UI and work flow.

Robin Kelly [Cakewalk Or maybe we nicked things from Project5. Yeahhhhhhhh, in the sense that P5 was implementing some now DAW-standard things at an earlier clip than SONAR perhaps. But you can't deny that X1 looks like Studio One, and it does not look like P5. That's okay though, Studio One borrowed some UI from SONAR and Logic. it's not a crime, just a wink. Ableton didn't flip their lid when the Matrix appeared in P5 after all.

X1 does resemble Studio One the most, but the ProChannel seems to take a hint from Record. Anyhow, I see no resemblance between Project5 and Studio One. SO has why more advanced functionality, design and options. But hey, I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. Looks ain't everything. Just look at Reaper. Robin I believe you're correct :) Seriously, it's a brilliant concept originated from Cakewalk and because Sonar still retains it's wonderful incredible most magnificent powerful core abilities and now taken a leap forward with the new Skylight UI additional workflow enhancements ~ Oh yeah baby this changes everything :) I remember reading an article, already before 8th Dec release there's a lot of great positive vibes about X1, I have a feeling X1 will be a huge success. Thanks Robin :) Wishing everyone and all at Cakewalk great prosperity. Oh an *Happy Thanksgivings* -

I was a user of Studio one for the first 2 version, In all hind sight, other makers of DAW's should be carful when it comes to the market for new users as S1 Is really fast at getting it wright and in a far more approacable way than any other Daw,But still a way to go, give it 2 more years and it may well be hard to beat, work flow and result wise. Not that this will affect users who are set on their existing daw. sonar X1 may have just Clinched it for me,hence why i have held tight for X1 and sold Studio one. The only major thing i have seen at fualt in sonar or at least is looking that way after the release of x1, is the automation drawing and moving/coping etc then the shapes and more important the shape tool i asked for on their forums many times. what does it for S1 is their attitude to the users wants and their constant involvment on their forum. Their Is no beating that automation drawing in S1 only duplicating it. If this Is adressed soon their after in X1 then putting the price difference to one side, sonar will be pound for pound the most Pro daw their is and ever will be in terms of catching up and now the ease of use added to X1 Browsing Drag and drop etc. Just my views.

I don't get that Studio One thing. To me, it's not like it's groundbreaking or anything. It doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table. Looks average. Yet another host, combining the same set of tools. And about the Studio One GUI... Have a look at Logic. It was all in there well before Studio One came out. ;)

Pro channel color scheme reminds me of an Allen and Heath console-namely Zed R16 which I own. And interestingly, SONAR LE comes bundled with the mixer...Draw your own conclusions. For all those claiming (and I've read it countless times) that SONAR is a 'consumer level' DAW...well, Allen and Heath? Do I need to say any more really?

One thing I really HATE in DAWs like Cubase (and I think Studio One and Reaper have this feature) is you have to automate BELOW the track rather than ON it. This takes up more screen space and creates additional tracks. I know some people prefer this method, but it just creates a huge mess for me when dealing with a 100+ midi track project. It's a deal killer for me. That's why I prefer Sonar. In PT at least it's optional, but then there is no fast bounce.. so again... Sonar. Just modernize the video!!! - lol

I really prefer automation of the contenders more, since it is possible to show volume, mod, velocity, expression etc. neatly below each other, and I can hide what I do not want to see or always edit in context all at once. But perhaps I have overlooked something while testing Sonar 8, Anyway looking forward to give X1 another shot when it arrives.

No, Sonar will only give you the envelopes on the track itself. Personally I find it a pain to work with Sonars envelopes as soon as there are multiple parameters automated on a single track. Saving screen real estate is all fine, but as long as I am working on the envelopes I highly prefer them to be in separate lanes (with a faint pic of the track's waveform/MIDI data underneath). Reaper allows any combination of envelopes being on track/individual lanes/hidden. They can even be in separate lanes when they are actually on the track itself (if the track height is enough to do that with reasonable lane heights). I decide by the task at hand. That's how I like it best. At least Cakewalk apparently improved selection of envelopes vs clips for X1, so it might be much better with that Sonar version. Edited for spelellining

Also I should note I have alot of CC7 and CC11 data to deal with. So single lanes are best for me - at least for midi. Just my personal preference. I'd rather look at 100 tracks as opposed to 300 tracks of data. I guess a 'best of both worlds' scenario is best.

I actually enjoy Studio One, and right now, I'm using the demo. Outside of a small error with my Absynth 4 plugin, it runs beautifully!!! HOWEVER I would be making the jump from SONAR to Studio One if Cakewalk didn't focus on UI this time. While I love SONAR, I felt that other companies were making leaps and strides ahead of it in the UI department. The MDI stuff just felt sooooo 2001 .... Looking forward to X1 and ProChannel

Yes agree 100% this was one of the main reason I did not continue on Sonar8 but am looking forward to try X1 Reaper really did this right, but hell Reaper is missing basic things I need for MIDI/composing Studio One is missing basic functions I need like track folders and the MIDI workflow sure needs some more improvement (but they are super fast developers) why oh why can there be no DAW which has all. Still on Cubendo for the greenest grass for me but looking to X1 envious for (hopefully) great window management, automation lanes, renaming VSTi Slots, docking... and why the heck has Sonar no track subfolders? This should be easy shouldnt it??
