Sound Forge Pro 10.0c as editor in Sonar 8.5 64 bit
I've done some searches here, and found that some folks are making the Sonar 64 bit work with SF 10, but not what interfaces they are using. I have an E-MU 1820 that works great for what I do, but I've had problems after my computer and software upgrades. I was happily running Sonar HS6XL and CoolEdit2.1 and decided I needed more power. Right now, I can get SF to open a file out of Sonar 8.5 32 bit, but won't share the drivers (ASIO). In 64 bit I get "Cannot create Process) Switching to WDM restricts me to 16 bit--no idea what's up with that. Upshot, I know the E-MU beta W7 drivers are sketchy. Who's using what that works with W7 64, Sonar 8.5.1 64 with Sound Forge Pro 10c?

Hi Old Goat - welcome to the forum. The first thing you should do is go to Options, Audio, and then click on the Advanced tab. Make sure there is a check-mark next to "Share drivers with other programs".

Hi Old Goat: I've seeb an Old Goat over at the Digifreq forum, and I bet that's you. I'm thinking you're aware of the article Scott Garrigus wrote on adding audio editors to the SONAR Tools menu. Just in case you need to refer to that article, here's the link: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/article.asp?ID=2 If you've tried that and are still having a problem, sorry to hear that. Maybe it does have something to do with using the x64 version of SONAR, but I used a cheap audio editor and have no problem with it running well from the SONAR Tools menu. Just trying to help a bit, and RogerS has a good point above.

Thanks, guys, I've done both of those things. And Scott is trying to help me also. Since I started using computers and recording in 2000, I've found so many new and wonderful ways to screw stuff up that nothing surprises me anymore! Apparently, ASIO doesn't share. On my laptop I have MME drivers, and both Sonar and SF will run at the same time, but SF won't open from the tools menu. It is in the proper place in the registry under the wow6432node.

I had problems getting Sound Forge 9.0 to work from the Tools menus. Once I got it working I had no problem running it and Sonar at the same time. I got it to work by using the file in this link ... http://www.calamitystudio.com/TOP/soundforge.zip This file is for Sound Forge 9.0 so you will have to edit it and correct the path and .exe filename for Sound Forge 10. Some people say they were able to manually added this information in to their registry but that never worked for me. I had to double click the soundforge.reg file and let Windows add it to the registry.

Thanks, Bub. I got it in the registries. Okay, to update: I can now use SF in the 32 bit version of 8.5 in the studio computer by assigning the E-MU drivers to SF and ASIO4all to Sonar. Opens from Tools, reloads, cool. On both machines when SF is selected I get a blue progress bar and then the "cannot create process" message. I hooked my E-MU 0404 USB up to the laptop, thinking it would work better than the onboard audio, but SF still won't open in 32 bit Sonar at all. I did a search before I signed up here, and read one guy say he had SF 10 and 8.5 64 bit on W7 64 bit working, but that was 10a. I wonder if the updates screwed the 64 bit functionality?

Decided to reload the 32 bit Sonar onto the laptop. Like before, I got an error early on--"An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file msvcp71.dll. DeleteFile failed. Access denied" I checked and found the file in question, Redistributable C++2005, and the replacement .dll, msvcr80.dll and installed them manually. Still got the error. I am running everything as admin. I ignored it the first time, but the redistributable helps when other programs run at the same time, right? I was thinking this might be why I can't get SF10 to work on the laptop. I don't know if it makes a difference, but the studio machine has a quad core Phenom, and the laptop is running an i3. Anybody have any other ideas?

If you're using Win7, make sure Sonar AND SoundForge are being 'run as administrator'. This applies to 32 or 64 bit programs. For those who don't know...Left click on the program icon for each, in properties/ compatibility Check 'Run this program as administrator'. Depending on the security setting of your 'User Account Control', when you start either program, you might be asked if you wish to allow the program to make changes to your computer (Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\ Change User Control Settings to enable, disable or change the level of these warnings) If you DON'T run as administrator, any program settings you change in Sonar or SoundForge will not necessarily be saved. This also applies to the External Encoder Configuration Utility for folk who're having problems getting Lame or another third party encoder to save settings. You might also try setting Sonar Playback and Recording Mode to MME to have it work with Sound Forge MORE at http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2499993
