Another APRO issue (Maybe)

Hi,

I have been discussing this in the hardware forum, but as there is very little footfall there I decided to elevate it to here.

How the heck do you get the Upper/Lower/Split/Dual buttons to work.  We have been assigning the sounds as per the manual using programs on different soft synths ie Upper > Z3ta2 Progra, Lower > Psyn Program, but nothing changes on pressing the buttons ie if Im playing using Z3ta2 then press the lower button the souund still stays the same instead of changing to the Psyn sound.  I can see the program change in the LCD display but the sounds dont.  I have also tried this using the same soft synth with the same result.

Am I missing something here? The manual makes it sound simple enough.  I know that the other forum member is trying to play two sounds concurrently with a split keyboard with the same success.

Any thoughts guys and gals? Have I totally missed the point?

You need to assign the split sections to different channels or you're effectively splitting the keyboard but sending the same data from both  hence not really splitting at all.

With the upper button lit set that to channel 1 for example and then with the lower lit to channel 2. I don't think Z3ta responds to any other channel than 1 though so that's probably not the best synth to experiment with.

I'm working from memory here and I have a PCR not an APRO but I don't think you can specify a different out port for each half which would be the only way I can think of of playing two different instances of Z3ta or Dim Pro.

Experiment with TTS that'll definitely respond to different channels.

To me the APRO manual is written in swahilli! Utter gibberish!

Thank god for helpful forum members. :-)

Yes, the APRO manual is a useless waste of paper. If not for savvy users who have posted tips online, I never would have gotten my money's worth out of my A-800 Pro.

In my experience, Roland manuals have never been the best. I'm reminded of the manual that came with my Roland Jupiter 4 synth back in the day. In one section, it actually said that a particular problem with the keyboard could be the result of "idiotic operation"!

Ok I now have my headround it thanks Karl!

All makes sense now, basically to use those functions the synth in question needs to be multi-timbral. I've tried it with TTS-1 and all works as (un)advertised in the manual.  I now need to see if I can maximise its usefulness.
