Sonar Renewal

I hate to ask, because this is probably posted somewhere (and obscured from my blindness), but would CW mind posting an official renewal process for the new methods of support/renewal for 2016 and anchor it to the top of the Sonar forum like we see the "Read This Before Buying Sonar" post? Are there any incentive deals? (for example, "Renew before X date at this $___ price)

I've not received any renewal or expiration notices and such. I'm pretty sure I'm on the cusp of expiration and/or renewal. I don't know how to purchase a 12-mo. update subscription, since I bought Platinum as a one-time purchase.

I assume the only way to renew is through the cakewalk store. But what about 3rd-party resellers? Any coupons available? etc.
I just don't want to pay the $149 just to be frivolous.

Thanks!

If you're a pay monthly customer, do nothing.  Just carry on as you have been for the past year and all will continue as normal.  Your pay method with continue to be charged unless you specifically get it stopped.

If you bought the complete year in one go,  just buy it again.  The store will automagically charge you the correct amount and add 12 months to your expiry date.

But would someone mind anchoring this info to the top of the Sonar forum for us? This was an aspect that I didn't see clearly addressed.

Thanks!

Of the 10 threads showing in the Store forum (where all questions regarding purchasing/upgrading/renewing should be asked)  7 are about the annual renewal....  (including this one)

Never thought of looking there. I always thought that was the area where people had issues with the store itself, since there were a number of issues during some upgrades to the store.

I still feel this should be anchored to the Sonar forum header area. But I'll drop it. It's just not clear.

I see your point Brian,  the Sonar forum is for things like how to use it, how to set it up, basic troubleshooting, general Sonar discussion.

The Store forum is specifically for purchase related questions, not just Sonar but all Cakewalk products.

I would put a sticky in the Sonar forum about the renewal myself,  but we already get enough complaints about the excessive amount of stickies there...

I appreciate your input Karyn, however I want an official renewal method. I don't see how going out looking for the best price on Sonar is acceptable. I'm not upgrading from X3 and I'm not buying Sonar outright. I need a refill and don't expect to pay the same as I did when I upgraded from X3 and got Melodyne plus AD2 included. There's simply not that kind of value this time around. Please tell you pals at Cakewalk to get off their humps and figure this out.

This is the first big failure on Cakewalk's part since the new business model was established. They got it right with the launch and kept it right all year, now they're dropping the ball instead of closing the loop. I have about 18 days left and won't spend a lot of effort trying to give Cakewalk my money.

Hi John,

That is official, honest.  Because of the way the Cakewalk Store works, when you add Sonar to the cart it will give you the renewal (used to be called 'upgrade') price, based on your existing registered purchases, so you're not paying a second time for things you've already got.

I agree the Bakers should be more upfront about what the actual renewal price is,  but the purchase method I posted is correct.

Karyn

Edit to add:  This isn't actually anything new,  in the past you could always shop around for special offers from 3rd party stores for an 'upgrade' package or just buy the upgrade direct from Cakewalk.  The only difference now is that on the Cakewalk store there is no separate 'upgrade' package. It simply reduces the price if you already own it.

Thanks Karyn, I'll go to the store and see what it ells me about the cost. It will be whatever the USD cart price is plus about 40% due to fees from VISA and a massive loss in the value of CDN dollars. Maybe I'll wait and let it go for now.

I wasn't under the impression this was a bakers issue, but I'm not going to worry about that. The marketing failed for renewal offerings and method in my eyes. Having an official post that everyone can see would at least help mitigate the confusion.

EDIT - THIS WAS AN ERROR
The store was not giving me actual prices until AFTER I committed to buying. If you say you want to buy something and then return to the main store page the corrected prices will show up.

Well, I'm done with Sonar for now. My renewal price is $580 CDN for Platinum and $229 for Producer.

Last year it was $149. I'm done until the world gets its **** together. It's my hobby not my life, and an annual renewal cost of $600 makes it a hobby I can't afford. Ridiculous.

I bought at JRRShop back in earlier December and waited for Cakewalk to get things in place, before I redeemed my new code from JRRShop.  After a couple of weeks, I decided to go ahead and redeem, and being advised in these forums, to PM Willy, which I did and then several days later contacted support as well.  After another week+, I called support (after not hearing anything) and it's been about another week, in which they said my "renewal date" would/shsould be updated - which it is not as of today.  It is still showing "valid thru 1/22/2016.
Honestly I'm not really worried, as I have total confidence in Cakewalk, I will own the product, should it expire....but after a month or so, it still isn't showing any new renewal date....so the "official route" is not really working, or as promptly as I would think it should be.
Again, hats off to cake for a fine product....put a fire under the butt of who's in charge of getting the "paperwork" squared away.

EDIT ...to add I bought a year's worth at once last year...and again (for the renewal).

Make sure you are signed in to your Cakewalk account when you click on the Buy Now button for Sonar Platinum. Also, make sure you are clicking on the Pay Once version. When it is added to your cart while signed in to your account it should show $149. The only reason I am holding off until a few days of renewal is I am hoping there will be some sort of incentive sale to make you want to be sure to renew. Mine runs out the 21st of this month. There has been a little rumbling around about incentives for those of us who have been loyal buyers and supporters for so long. I have been an advocate since Pro Audio 9 from working in other studios for other people. When I set up my own studio, I immediately purchased Sonar 8.5 and have not looked back since for my own personal projects. It would be nice to get something for that sworn allegiance to Cake!!! LOL!!

I was a monthly customer and if I had done nothing, my monthly payment for Sonar Platinum would have increased from $AU17.99 per month to $AU26.17 per month (as noted by my 12th Cleverbridge payment confirmation)

I chose to cancel the monthly and purchased the 12 months for $AU175.00

I too did the JRR shop upgrade thing and then redeemed my code a few weeks later. I then emailed order support but have not heard anything back yet.  Where do you see your expiration date? I don't even know when mine expires except that I know I bought I last January.

Hi,

Information about SONAR renewal will be available early-to-mid next week. I think all customers will be pleasantly surprised with the pricing based on what we posted last year. More info to come soon. I promise! In the meantime, hold off purchasing from the Cakewalk Store until we announce the new pricing. Those that purchased it already from JRR and other shops will get one year added to the end date of their membership. So no one will lose any days.

After waiting for a few weeks to hear about how to proceed, I finally bought my one-year extension yesterday.

Of course, an hour later, Andrew Rossa posted advising us to put off buying our extensions, pending good news about a price break forthcoming.

Do you think I could get a refund? 😊

Contact customer support (phone or email) and explain,  I think a few others will be doing the same.

For anyone else...

There's NO NEED to renew yet.  Wait for the price and/or offer announcements (if there are any offers).

Thank you, Karyn. I did as you suggested and received a very courteous and helpful reply from Andrew Rossa almost immediately.

That's great to know.

All the stuff for the renewal process is being finalised,  store setup, accounts, prices, etc.
Won't be long now.
