Best Piano Instrument <- recommendations please!

Hey guys, I'm looking for a really high quality, legit grand and upright piano instrument to use with Sonar. So far I've experimented with 4Front TruePianos, Pianoteq, Toontrack and Pianissimo and they were all small and uninspiring.

I remember back in the day I use to LOVE Reason pianos, but I don't want to be using Reason just for that purpose.

Anyone have any suggestion? what's your favorite piano plug-in?

Thanks!

If you have kontakt there's a great new product called *the definitive piano collection* which goes for $199 by native instruments.  Its four different pianos, all of which sound great.  Its pretty hungry in resources I've noticed, at least a couple of the instruments are.  Its a more versatile (and cheaper) alternative than buying those single instrument versions.

Actually, only three pianos in the collection.  There are four you can get a  la carte though.

I have been very happy with Addictive Keys. Affordable and very easy to operate with lots of control. Not the best out there but for the bang for the buck, it's pretty hard to beat!

Sonar Platinum, Sonar X3e, Sonar X2a , Sonar X1 Expanded and 8.5.3 (32 and 64 bit), Windows 10 on a Toshiba P75-A7200 Laptop with i7 @ 2.4 quad and 8 gigs of RAM and secondary WD 1 Tb drive, Windows 10 desktop, Asus i5 @ 3.2 quad, 12 gigs RAM, 1 Tb drive, 1 500 gig drive, MOTU 24io, 2 Roland Studio Captures, Saffire 6 USB for laptop, Soundtracs Topaz Project 8 mixer, Alesis Monitor 2s, Event BAS 20/20s, Roland Micro-Monitor BA-8s, and 45 years worth of collecting FX, Mics, Amps, Guitars, and Keyboards!

EastWest Pianos Platinum are quite nice...

Pianoteq...

Ivory...

there are so many Pianos available it's ridiculous...
and what is best is purely subjective...

Don't forget Orange Tree Samples Evolution Rosewood Grand, a love emulation of the Yamaha C7.
Also, 8DIO has some nice pianos, I have the 1969 steinway D, which is also nice. I also use Pianoteq--the full version is more tweakable than the Player version, and the Pro version is fully editable, note by note. I have the full and I don't think it's "small" but it is a physical model rather than using recorded samples. Still quite realistic and customizable in many ways with a number of models, from Steinway, to Bluthner, to their hybrid K2, all of them very nice.
there are others, but I don't have them (yet).

Not yet released, but I have high hopes for Wavesfactory's Mercury Piano... ;) Other than that I'd say the NI Definitive Piano Collection is pretty darn good: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keys/definitive-piano-collection/

If I wasn't waiting for the Wavesfactory piano then I'd probably grab this: http://8dio.com/instrument-category/piano/#instrument/1928-steinway/

I have a soft spot for playing a piano, well, piano. :)

I must admit I was pretty impressed with the Alan Parson's Imperial Grand from IK Multimedia. The other libraries mentioned are all pretty good too, IMHO. I use the Addictive Keys one quite a lot -- it sounds decent, has lots of configurable elements, and doesn't seem to burden my system resources too much.

And I second ImpactSoundworks Pearl as well as Sampletekk TVBO, Pianoteq Standard, OrangeTreeSamples Rosewood Grand, SoundIron Emotional piano and CineSamples Piano in Blue.

I really hope that Wavesfactory does good with the Fazoli but I have my doubts it will be that impressive. I don't know that they have the skill or knowledge on how to really do right by that instrument and make it something incredible. Most of their libraries have been very "meh". If someone with a better reputation was doing this, then I'd be all over it. For now...

I am intrigued by this library. Sounds very distinctive and is probably not a jack-of-all-trades sort of piano, but I do like what I hear in the demos:

I have my faith in Jesus (sorry for the pun, the guy is really named Jesus) and that he will produce a great piano library. At least his plans sound very good (I write demos for Wavesfactory products).

They are old, but the Sampletekk Bosendorfers' sound big and inspiring to me. Of course if you want a BIG upright, check out The Giant from NI.

You can look at the Piano in 162 and the Estate Grand Limited as two freebies with a very good sound, imo.

+ 1 for The Giant.  I also like NI's Alicia Keys edition.  Though I'm not a fan of Alicia's music personally, I respect her ability to manage those tricky ivory keys.  NI did well to approach her with this project.

I think the NI definitive Piano Collection are the same sample sets of the Classic Piano's from way back. It has a Bosendorfer, Yamaha C7, Steinway, and an Upright of some flavor. Somewhat uninspiring to my ears after all this time - but they aren't bad. I picked them up years back for about 100.00 on a closeout before they ported them to Kontakt.
