AVG says Melodyne is a threat
I'm not sure if I should install Melodyne because AVG says it's a threat. I had an earlier version with no issues. Any thoughts? Rob

Personally, I only download software from the vendors website. If you have downloaded Melodyne directly from http://celemony.com/ and AVG is saying it's a threat, then this would be a false positive. If, after updating AVG's definitions and it still flags Melodyne as a threat, you should contact AVG about this to let them know. If Melodyne was actually infected with a real threat, then I am sure this forum would be lit up like a Christmas tree with people complaining.

Hi. I have installed Melodyne 4, and have had no issues whatsoever. But it did go to demo mode after the install. A reboot fixed that. Sorry to be of no more help. All the best. Edit: upgraded from version 2,and it is the version that ships with SONAR.

AVG has increasingly gotten more intrusive and flaky as it's gone along. I'm in the process of getting it off all of my machines and putting in something better. I'm hearing good reports about Avira these days.

At one time AVG was on Sonar support's list of Anti-virus programs to avoid as they could or potentially could interfere with Sonar. I've used the free (and built into Win 10) Microsoft Defender (used to be called Security Essentials) for years and have not had any security issues or issues with Sonar that could potentially be related to security software. Melodyne 4 is not flagged as a threat by Windows Defender.

I dropped Norton and went to AVG. Then dropped AVG and went to Avast!. Then dropped Avast! and am now using Webroot Secure Anywhere. All of the others became more and more bloated and intrusive over time.

Hey DRank, do you see a pattern - I'm guessing you'll be dropping Webroot Secure Anywhere soon, too. Sadly, I don't have a recommendation as I use AVG on most of my machines and Norton on one of them.

Thanks, folks, for all the thoughts. I'm new to this type of format and it's taken me 5 min to figure out how to best reply. And I still don't know how to do that. I downloaded melodyne from the sonar command center, as cakewalk asks this to be done. And, yes, I think AVG's no longer worth it, unfortunately.

Don't know about any threat in Melodyne (my DAW is offline with no AV installed)
However I've been using Eset NOD for many years without complaints on my home PC. NOD seems to be low on resource usage.

DRanck, you might check the WebRoot file "ProgramData/WRData", it "grows" every day (60gb today)! I put it on a separate drive. My C drive is 27gb, with the WRData moved. I'm about done with the 1yr subscription, them I'm moving on! Off topic I know, sorry. T

Hmmm, I'll check intro that folder. The reason I chose webroot is it's "wait and see" approach to protection. So far it's been working well, but yeah in a year or two it may suffer from bloating.

Sheesh. Complaints about AVG falsely flagging plugin installers have been around for at least three years. You'd think they'd have resolved it by now. Don't worry about it, it's AVG that's the problem.

I was going to upgrade Melodine the other day to take advantage of their offer but stopped when I noticed that I did not have a secure connection. I think they have a problem with their certificates. It said their site was trying to load scripts from unauthorized sources.

Same here, although when I switched from Chrome to IE, I saw that I once again had a secure connection. That being said, I decided to hold off a few more weeks to upgrade to 4 so who knows if AVG will throw a fit when that time comes. I haven't had any issues with AVG though, at least not yet.

Personally, I use Avast. It's effective and thankfully unobtrusive. I ditched AVG a while ago as the amount of false positives I got with it drove me up the wall. Plus it seemed a bit of a resource hog.

I've had this problem with Kaspersky Internet Security, not with Melodyne but with Mountain Directory (highway grade warning software). However, in KIS you can go into the settings and tell it to ignore a folder or a file. KIS has saved me any number of times from various threats, but when it goes bonkers it quarantines the file, and if it can't quarantine it, it will delete it.
