SONAR Upgrade Policy?!
So, I recently decided to get my feet wet with SONAR, and after a week playing around with the demo, took the plunge and purchased SONAR Artist for AU$125. A few weeks later again, I decided that I might like to upgrade to Professional, which is AU$225 to purchase as a new user. However, I was dismayed to find that it would be AU$175 to upgrade my existing copy - that's a saving of only $50 over buying it as a completely new user and would make purchasing Professional a AU$400 expense. Am I reading this wrong, or is that really what it's going to cost to upgrade? I couldn't see any mention of the upgrade pricing structure on Cakewalk's website prior to purchasing so had assumed that starting with the basic version whilst I explored further would be a sensible idea - hopefully I haven't made an expensive mistake! Thanks!

Have you contacted Cakewalk directly? I have always found them to be extraordinarily fair and would be surprised if they didn't look after you.

Well, it's been a week and no reply from support. I guess that gives me an idea as to how responsive support are, and whether or not its a product worth investing further in. Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions!

I am not sure why you might have not received a response - I would suggest you give calling their tech support folks a chance. I will also send a private message to a couple of the Cakewalk staff members, on your behalf, with the link to this thread in it so that they can hopefully work out whatever questions you have. The forum software will not allow you to send or receive private messages until you hit a certain number of posts - it is done to help avoid trolling and spam. So, I'll shoot them one for you, and see if they can help you out. Bob Bone

OK I sent a private message to a couple of the Cakewalk staff, and hopefully they will get back to you in your thread or by email/phone to help you get squared away. For whatever the worth, the Cakewalk folks HAVE been quite good at helping folks out with store issues, or with questions about the upgrades and such. On top of that, there are a BUNCH of folks in the forums that will bend over backwards to try and help folks figure out issues, PLUS Sonar has really come a long way with stability and features/fixes. I HOPE you will hang in there and give them a chance to address your situation. :) Bob Bone

Robert, you have the same name as me! I'm Robert. Could you please help and maybe PM some of those staff members for me? I am at my wits end. I cannot get ANY reply out of CW staff at all in any way shape or form. I have 2 case numbers, one from 4 weeks ago and one from late last week. Both were pre-sales support questions in order for me to upgrade to Platinum from an older version. I have tried and tried and waited and waited and no one will help. I used to be such a devoted, loyal Cakewalk fan but this is ridiculous. When you can't call support and when you e-mail and sit for days and weeks with no response isn't it time to give up and buy software from a company that actually cares and has the capacity and willingness to help customers? Especially if it means sales. I was literally ready to purchase Platinum and probably some extra components but no one will even respond to anything!!!!! I have never been this frustrated with a company. Ever. Not even a cable company. Cakewalk is now equivalent to Comcast in my book. Congratulations Cakecast!
