Cake Walk Bundle default file type to save

How do I make CWB the default type of file to save so I don't have to change it in the save dialog each time. Even though I have saved and opened a project as CWB it still defaults to he normal type and I must change it to CWB each time I want to save the project.

    Hmm.

Not sure you can do that.

But there are bigger concerns than that. First, why save as a bundle?
You run the risk of losing your entire project including midi, audio, plugins, everything, if, for some reason your bundle develops a tiny corruption somewhere.
Saving as a project file protects you somewhat from this as you would have the option of opening in safe mode, access to your audio files etc.

Relying on bundles makes you very vulnerable. Use them only for special actions, like moving projects to a co-worker or something. Photo editing software often behave in a similar way with jpg-files, as each jpg (or cw bundle) save requires  certain packing/processing.

    Thank you for responding.

I save projects as bundles and normal files. I have only a few projects and lots of data storage space, with a 250 GB system drive and a 1 TB data drive on my i7/32 GB RAM laptop. I need to be able to load projects on other gear using USB 3.0 flash drives.

I am growing pessimistic about finding a way to make bundles the default save choice.

    Any help?

I do not believe it is possible. There may be a registry hack but I will leave it for someone else.

Bundles do not compress data. A bundle concatenates the project and supporting files into one big file.

Performing a "Save As" to the flash drive with "Copy all audio with project" enabled will create a complete project with only the audio referenced in the project copied. Just like what the bundle would contain except with individual files in a project directory tree.

The project may be played directly from the flash drive or the folder copied to another machine. Bundles may not be played directly. The must be parsed back into a project folder to be played.

    "Concatenates"
I had to look that one up. I learn something new every time I come to this forum.

Anyway, if you use per-project audio folders there is no need for bundle files. You do not even need to open SONAR to make a copy of a project file (if you use per-project audio folders).

The .bun file is a dinosaur that goes back to when audio was first introduced to the Cakewalk sequencer. It was the only practical way to share files and /or back them up.

If you were to make .bun the default then it would make a new bundle every time you hit Cntrl-s. For me that would be hundreds.

You do know that Sonar doesn't actually read bundle files. It can only read cwp, OMF and MIDI files. Bundles files need to uncompressed before Sonar can read them. When they are uncompressed they are written to cwp files. Its the cwp file that Sonar actually uses.
