final song mix (#3 of 11) - 'WAITING TO SHINE' <<< deleted >>>
<<< deleted, moving on with some others to follow... >>> final song mix (#3 of 11) - how's it translating? guys, i'm posting near-final mixes of the songs that i'm about to release on cd. these are unmastered files. so you'll have to crank em up.......LOUD they were output at dithered 16 bit, with no processing. the mp3'd to 320 kbps. i'd love to get just a quick listen from you, to establish translation on different systems. thanks! Hi BB ,sounds good on Sennheiser hd 202 headphones, great playing as always. If I have a criticism it's that on headphones you have a rhythm guitar in each ear, panned very wide, sounds a bit distracting and competing with the lead in the middle. Greetings,Rik

hey rik! thanks for the review.. yes, i'm doing hard L-C-R panning on this one. i tried blending it more to the middle... but ended up liking the clarity of the hard panning scheme better. i ride the faders on the rhythms, when they're louder, that's where i wanted them for a reason... or course, distraction wasn't the reason! heheh

Hi BB,you're right about the clarity, I really like that SRV-like swagger of the rhythm guitar but can understand why you panned them this way. Greetings, Rik

some sibilance on the vocals, could be the mp3 conversion, of course, but may need to de-ess a little. guitar is spot-on.

Hi BB,interesting article, if you put so many interesting parts in a song as you do, you really have to think of where to put them. Greetings, Rik

Sound really good bat. Guitar on the right during the chorus seems a bit piercing. And maybe always about 1.5db too loud (in relation to the left guitar).

Sounds really good on standard headphones at work. Nice tones and good mix. I also thought the guitar on the right was a tad bit louder than the left. Your CD is coming along really nice (I likes it). Have you done any Pat Travers tunes?

Nice full sound, Bat. However I found myself straining to hear the guitar leads and vocals at times. I know you like to keep them not so up front, but a smidge more wouldn't hurt.

mgh yes, i recorded those vox hot, and that's what i ended up with. i'll try some extra de-essing.... morenoise yea, that's a particularly good piece, i think every single person here should read it over and over.... bapu piercing guitars on the right, check! i've re-eq'd that guitar, and re-worked the fader rides on it as well. it stands out where it should now, and does not step on the vox mesh standard headphones, check! headphones are tricky, because EAR BUDS, for example, especially the nice ones with the extended low end, can really show up a bad low end mix... pat travers?! heheh man, you just don't hear that name dropped very often.. my first road band, a hard rock act named EXIT, played several travers tunes... makin magic, rock and roll suzie, heat in the street i still think travers was way better than he was given credit... boom boom? bah humbug. but his other stuff, wow. vechung thanks vicente! jamesyoyo check on leads and vox. i went back and got more aggressive with it this weekend.... they're definitlely hotter now!
