fixing timing on wav file

Didn't know what to call subject, so pardon that.

I have been trying to play this one guitar rhythm part for some time now in time.  I know I should just keep practicing, but am wondering if there is a way to edit the notes I played moving them to be on the beat when they are not.

I looked at quantize, but not sure if that is what I want to use.

I was pondering making it into a groove clip (although it is long), and see if I can fix it there.

So, is there a way to do that?

We do not know what version of Sonar you have.

Assuming you are playing an analogue (acoustic or electric) guitar and trying to record the sound produced (as opposed to a guitar midi controller), then you will need something that will modify the audio file. Quantize is a midi function. You will need to use audiosnap or something like it to get that effect in an audio file. Manual editing of the audio file is another option but extraordinarily tedious and demanding.

    I don't believe it!

Someone who's never used Audiosnap before, tries it, and 4 hours later reports that it works perfectly!!!

    And easy!!!

Please, let us know your secret.

There are several different camps of users here:

Those who have never tried A/S
Those who have tried to use it and failed miserably
Those who have tried it but it crashes their system
Those who have tried it & had partial success (me!)
And those who run it succesfuuly, time & time again.

hehe.. well I have my tent in that first camp, till now that is.. It may have been easy because most of what I was playing was in time, just  a few notes were either a tad earlier or late, so using the audio snap was for a minor "fix" so to speak. But it did not crash my system, and actually it was under 10 mins, I was just playing it back and forth amazed before I edited my reply before.

    Yeah I failed at Audiosnap.
Alternatively I use V-Vocal, get it right first time then bounce the clip afterwards otherwise I get the Cronus.dll crash.
I generally use it when using wav file samples though when I need to change the beat of them.

When I am recording from guitar or other instruments, I just keep on repeating until I get it right.

Yeah, V-Vocal is great for fixing monophonic wavs.

It's not much use for poly stuff, though you might get some success by bouncing it down to split mono beforehand, apply your V-V tweaks then re-combining into stereo afterwards.

Depends totally on the source material.
