for any Pro Tools haters

this is an interesting article on what could be Pro Tools future - at this point it's all speculation http://bobbyowsinski.blog...rouble-is-avid-in.html

btw: that article is even "a little" ridiculous because it looks like the author has no clue about apples current policy

1: people like me have been waiting for ages for a new logic 10 - cause today logic 9 is probably the least "modern" sequencer on the market and apple already once f&%ed a ton of customers when the bought emagic and "threw out" all the pc users of logic (i was one)...so for many there is not much trust in that company anymore

2: finalcut X is a total miss from a pro-perspective - apple completely kicked out many important fetaures for professionals and i know more than one cutter that who works with major tv-stations that confirmed this.

apple is just dumping the prices and dumping the "professional" customers - but there are quite some people that don´t think that this is a good idea.

just my 2 cents as apple & pc user

It's a shame because apart from the hair-pulling problems I had with Pro Tools and it's audio engine, it's actually a very polished product with an excellent work flow. But in the end I hated it and couldn't wait to try something different.

Hmmm... People like me are perfectly happy w/ Logic 9 and find it hard to believe that someone could justify the "least modern" sequencer out there. In fact, I see new versions of other DAW software coming out all the time touting features which are and have been in Logic for quite some time.

Swipe comping - check (the best there is)
    Varispeed - check
    Screensets - check (way back)
"Skylight" type of interface - check (actually came up w/ the original)
Create sampler instruments w/ one click - check
    Input channels - check
    Transient detection/beat mapping/groove extraction - check
    Folder tracks - check
    Decent score editor - check
MIDI editing - check (still one of the best out there).
Bounce to track, Bounce in Place, Freeze - check
    Loop - click L
Real-time tape slowing down effect - available on a per clip basis via the inspector's fade parameter
    Automation layers - check (available/optional)
Decent score to movie options - check

    And on and on...

The one noticeable "missing" feature I can think of is the Melodyne/ARA integration. And it was exclusive to Studio One until recently.

I actually prefer to wait for upgrades longer and have the new features implemented properly than having upgrades every 12 months while the list of on going issues only gets longer and broken things don't get fixed. Logic still gets free minor updates and quick fixes after 3 years (the most recent, last week) - you see that as a minus, I see that as a big plus.

Incidentally, according to a post by SoundOnSound, it seems that Steinberg have just opened a new R&D Center for Professional Music Notation and Education Software in London and hired many of the team responsible for Sibelius (which is one of the companies which Avid recently let go).

well - i have been a logic user since version 2.6 - and the "lovely" hardware dongle and the great black handbook ;-)
so i think that at least for my personal approach i can without any problem claim that logic is not up to date in several aspects - on the other hand it is still the most "organic" feeling sequencer and the mid performance with unitors or amts is uncomparable
    best regards

Stuff we're working on at the moment is Pro Tools. Quite like it, I like Sonar as well. Each to their own.

FWIW, I was also a Logic/PC user back in the version 3.x days til 5. And I wasn't happy w/ Apple's move. Finally got back to it a few years ago w/ version 9.

And, somehow, I think it paid off now - for the very same reasons I think that it's a good move for Cakewalk to stay PC only.

Of course, I'm also anxious to see the next version, but it's simply curiosity - we're always on the hunt for new tools and toys. But as soon as I start working, there really isn't much to slow me down or hinder my workflow, something I can't say about Cubase, Studio One or Pro Tools.

at least i have to say that i am very happy with x2pe - i upgraded yesterday from 8.53 and appart from the first few minutes of total "what is going on here" i now really like it a lot . and it definitely performs better than 8.5

nice to see that my 199.- are a good investement :-)

I'd love to get a chance to try X2 - I loved 8.53... But since I'm all in favor of Cakewalk remaining PC only, I can't realistically hope to see that happening.

This 'finite' group of us 'audio' pro and pro-sumers indeed have a great impact on our beloved equipment providers.

In a conversation with Celemony (Melodyne) about having to pay for the recent update (upgrade).

    He stated:
"We're not all driving Mercedes Benz's"
    and
"there are only so many folks out there that will buy Melodyne and unfortunately this is the only way to stay in business"

If we like them we should try and support them......so they don't "fade away"
