It seems to be a standalone program.

To the best of my knowledge, Audacity is a stand alone sound editor...As I recall, it does not have any rewire support, therefore, it would not work "inside" another DAW program. You could use it to edit audio files (an aspect of DAW recording that HS makes cumbersome) then import the edited files into HS...Since it's "free", why not try it? If you want to integrate it into HS you could always use "Virtual Audio Cables" (VAC)...

I used Audacity before buying HS. It's okay as a basic audio editor, but seems to be pretty redundant to have if you've got Sonar. And it IS stand-alone.

Try this utility program to bring the audio editor into HS's tool menu. I used it already to bring WaveLab Lite and GoldWave into the tool menu. When I want to edit a waveform that HS cannot handle, I select the waveform, then click on either editor in the tool menu. The waveform then opens up in the chosen audio editor. Do my edits, click save when I'm done, and close the editor. HS will state that the waveform has change and if you want to save it - click yes. So there you have it - editing in a audio editor without leaving HS.

    Thanks for the link, DeBro!

Definitely a time-saver as I always edit audio using Adobe's Audition and switching back and forth between DAW's is now a breeze!
