frequent crashing !!!
I am running X1 Producer on 3.2 ghz dual core with 4 gig ram under xp. I have had no problem with Sonar 7 or 8.5. However, X1 seems to want to crash repeatedly. For example if I try to set up the much-touted multidock feature so I can see a track and I can see the console view, crash!!! This pretty repeatable. I installed over Sonar 8.5 (I didn't uninstall it) and I installed from all those humongous download files. suggestions please. timeking@fflynet.net Ohmegga Audio Florida

OP, you obviously have something not playing right with X1. I'm sure it goes without saying, but make sure you have the newest drivers for everything on your system (especially your audio card and video drivers). Eliminate the possibilities one by one.

I was having crashes all the time with X1. I updated the motherboard bios per startekh's suggestion and that "seemed" to help. but I was in contact with tech support at cake and TS seems to think it was Kontakt causing the crashing problem. I was using what the NI service center said was the latest version of kontakt for winxp, but TS said that Kontakt had some stability issues which cake had informed them of and those were supposed to have been fixed with 4.2.2 (I was running 4.1.3). when I switched over to win7x64 and my NI service center THEN updated me to 4.2.2, I have not had any more crashing.

a pentium D is a dual core processor, and its running at 3.2 ghz. I was under impression that what would happen would be that I couldn't run as many as effects/tracks. Not that it would crash. Honestly that doesn't make much sense, since when you run out of cpu, you normally get a dropout, not a crash. The D940 did phenomenally well under Sonar 8.5, like 60 stereo tracks at once and 8 or 9 effects all running no problemo. Before I go thru ALL THE FREAKING TROUBLE to upgrade, I need to hear this sad news from Cakewalk Techies!!!

Do not ever update firmware of any sort, especially the BIOS. unless you are pretty sure that it is what is causing your problem. A botched BIOS update can brick your machine and leave you without a computer.

Well I upgraded my autio card, video card drivers, and I also let windows manage my swap ram (previously set to zero to force xp to utilize my 4 gigs of ram). Now it don't crash, and I am thinking that the reason was the swap drive - out of ram, boom, crash. As far as the cpu, I have fanspeed and the d940 cpu is really having to work to keep up, got the temperature coming up and then the annoying fans gets speeded up to cool things down. So it works ok, and I see I need to upgrade my mb, cpu, ram, god knows what ... but now I can deal with it when I have the money, not go into panic mode.

You definitely want the swap file with your system. 2 1/2 times your ram is good. IMHO make sure minimum and maximum swap file size is the same. Always worked well for me and client PCS this way. I also agree with you about the processor.
