fx's won't work???

I bought MC a couple of weeks ago and have been going through the tutorials with great results until I tried using the effects. I choose Audio Effects-Cakewalk-Flanger for example and get an error message saying "Unable to patch Flanger. The error reported was: Out of Memory. It is likely that this effect is incompatible with Music Creator 2." I'm running an older system, Hp Pavillion 500 MHz, 320 RAM, but everything else seems to be OK. Any ideas???

Your error message appears throughout the Cakewalk family of software

"Out of Memory. It is likely that this effect is incompatible with Music Creator 2/Sonar/Home Studio/ (Your software here.)

Two possible solutions - or at least a start.

I suspect your computer is running programs in the background that are eating up your memory. You need to close them down. - see the help file - The CPU is being interrupted by "background" activities having nothing to do with audio

Secondly, when did you last Defrag your hard drive - if not recently, you should do it regularly - I would say at least every week. - Your hard disk may be excessively fragmented

Thanks Millerbill. Just in the last couple of days I defraged my hard disk (40 Gig), and ran Norton to clean up my system. I also turned off all the items in my Start up so they arent' hogging resourses. I also shut down the internet when using MC. I am thinking..."should I go out and buy some more RAM?" It wouldn't hurt but not sure if that would solve the problem.

I had a PIII with 700 Mhz CPU and 256 ram and it would not run MC.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!
