getting soundforge plugins to work in 64 bit mode?
has anyone got soundforge to show up in x2 pro, running win 7 64 bit? i really miss being able to use these soundforge f/x. i love the way sonar x2 runs in 64 bit, just wish i could use my go to plugins without xing out and going into 32 bit mode.

They are 32 bit DX plugins and are not supported by a 64 bit Sonar.

Bitbridge is for VST and VSTi only. You can wrap the DX plugins in a DX to VST wrapper and then use bitbrige to load them into Sonar

it's worth asking, because i get numerous 32 bit plugins to show up and i also get soundforge 9 to show up in my menu bar at the top of sonar 64 bit. also the new soundforge 10 says (new lol) it runs at a 64 bit floating rate? is this good news at all or just fluff. has anyone heard if soundforge 11 will take the plunge and be totally compatible in 64 bit mode? sorry to ask so many SF questions on this board, but lets face it. sonar x2 forums rock. it always seems i get some good help here. and SF and cakewalk have always worked great together in the past. been using them both sense cakewalk 6 in 97.

I have not used the VST wrappers for some time. I have read a few success stories of VST wrapped 32bit DX plugins in 64bit SONAR but I do not recall any reports using VST wrapped SoundForge FX. I can confirm that SF9 does run from the 64bit X2 Utility menu.

Thanks for this thread! I have SF8 still and AutoTune 4 which I prefer on bass tracks, as I haven't had much luck with V-Vocal on bass parts. Since my old P4 XP machine still has SF, Sonar 5.2 and Auto Tune, I figured I could export tracks and re import the wav. files into X2aPE I figured I would go with Celemony Melodyne Editor, vs Auto Tune7, and haven't paid attention to what version of Sound Forge is 64 bit, if it is, yet. If SoundForge runs but the selected wav does not load into SoundForge, more often then not, the registry entry Type is not set to WaveEditor (no spaces) Review your registry entries.

Have been using SF and SONAR in tandem for many years. With the ability to send a clip, track, section of audio or multiple tracks from SONAR to SF, edit them and then send the processed audio back to SONAR, there is no real need to use SF plugins in SONAR but SF 10 and SONAR can share the above plugins as stated. I use a free wrapper called FX Chainer which works well for using 32 bit DX/i in SONAR x64 but its no longer available for download. Vegas 12 has gone full 64 bit and I expect SF 11 to go full 64 bit. Although I have to say I've never had an audio project I couldn't load in SF. that's either a stereo or multi track project.

hey, good post. i do disagree with one of your statements though.there is good reason to use soundforge plugins in sonar x2. for me it gives me a great idea of what f/x i will be using later and how they will effect the sound and tone of the mics on instruments while still on the mixing board of sonar x2. it's too much time to for me to export separate files all the time to hear how this will effect my mix. i like the eqs in soundforge and love the noise reduction. also don't mind the compressor either. these are key plugins that are placed in my f/x bins before they get to boost 11 on the master bus. so to say there is no reason to use em en sonar i respectfully disagree. besides there is no wrong way to make great music with plugins.

@mudgel I think there are reasons one might want to use the effects in soundforge directly in Sonar. One I can think of off the top of my head relates to the fact that the console emulation in the pro channel is somewhat of a cumulative effect. Without being able to hear the track you wish to add the SF effects on in real time with the other tracks that have had the console emulation applied there will be a subtle difference between what you hear in SF and what occurs in Sonar after it renders.

I have some old DX plugins that are several years old. Never could use them in anything 64 bit until I ran across a post here in the forum about a little prog called dxshell. I downloaded it and placed it in my plugin folder and now all of the old DX plugins show up...not only in X2 64 bit....but even in my Sony Vegas Pro ver 11 64 bit and Vegas Pro 12. I don't use them much....but they are available just in case I decide to.

Yes, it is a good reuse of a program originally designed to make DX stuff available to hosts that could only handle VST plugins.

Of course my posts are only my opinion and based solely on my work flow habits. didn't meant to imply anything else. I use progs like dxshell as well as the other wrapper FX Chainer and so have access to all my SONY DX plugs in SONAR x64. I just have so many plugins that I only use SONY's Wave Hammer (which is just exceptional) within SONAR. It is a singularly exceptional plugin. I pretty much use SF 10 when I'm mastering or when I have batch processing of audio to do such as creating samples etc or massive amounts of converting wavs to mp3s or some other such project. With in SF 10 I tend to use the VST's with which I've already become familiar like Ozone 5 Adv, RX 2 - but the project dictates the tools in the end. And I certainly agree that that there are no hard and fast rules.

Installing the 32 bit version of Sonar is completely free and it runs 32 bit plug-ins like a charm, and doesn't take much extra space alongside the 64 bit install. Bridging, wrapping and other assorted hoop jumping who needs it? It's not like you have to keep your 32 bit version updated with all your latest and greatest plug-ins to stay in sync with your 64 bit version if you don't relish the idea of keeping two versions in step with each other you don't have to. But man if you have a real need to use your old 32 bit DX stuff or VST(i)'s that don't like being bridged it's the most perfect solution. The lengths people seem to go to in order to appear to stay as 64 bit purists seems bizarre to me, especially when if you think about it any advantage of running native 64 bit is lost as soon as you introduce anything 32 bit in the chain. What does x-ing out even mean? Just run the stuff you need natively. Most decent installers these days just drop the appropiate version in both x86 and x64 folders anyway, so all you're doing is keeping the stuff you say you don't want to do without without giving yourself the headaches of trouble-shooting bridged and wrapped garbage. Simple is good.

FWIW...I had used a ton of the Soundforge DX effects in the Sonar 32bit envronment with great success. As I now have built a complete 64 bit X2 rig, all those plug-ins are lost in time, like tears in rain....(sorry..) They do show up under the previously discussed DX shell, and work fine..BUT...they do not load up in your projects, so youse got to insert them all over again which is a pain. I just deleted the "missing " entries all together and used wrapped 32 bit VST's or 64 bit versions. Boy I would LOVE to have Sony/SoundForge offer those DX effects as VSTs!

Thanks Michael Yes your projects will work fine in both versions it's just if you have 64 or 32 bit specific plugs then of course those will only operate in the respective version. Everything else is interchangeable and will load up identically in either.
