Girl falls in fountain while texting.

I shouldn't laugh. I can see myself doing that.  lol  Except that I rarely text.

    OOOCCCHH...that's gonna smart....

Looked like she clocked her knees against the rim...

My wife got clobbered by a guy doing the texting thing going around a corner at an intersection......he ended up getting a few charges thrown at him for that, she ended up with a sprained ankle and a broken wrist...

I laughed. She will too later. I hate it when that happens.

See it regularly too. Also had a couple of near misses when I've been driving and some texter - usually young - steps
off the kerb and into the road without looking.

I love technology.  This texting thing is way out of hand.  Don't they know that you can actually talk to another person now and actually hear the other person at the other end?

That would be about par for the course, wouldn't it?

Mark...supposedly if they text, then they can stay engaged in what they're currently doing.  And talking takes too long.

Oh me too!  It doesn't help not being able to see the keys very well either.

I'm just quoting them.  They don't even have to look at their phone half the time!

    Reasons to text:

    1. Its great for short messages.
    2. Signal strength may be too week for a call.
    3. Person may not be free to take call.
    4. Texting is cheaper, certainly on Pay as You Go.

Oh, I see advantages in texting, for sure.  But it's not cheaper for me.  I have so many unused minutes, I could talk for a couple hours more a month for nothing.  Texting, OTOH, costs me about $5/mo and that's just for 200 texts.

    Thats a bit pricey Janet!

I do remember though that texting in the US didn't take off as much as the UK.

Texts on PAYG are about 10p here, as opposed to 35 per call.
Contracts often have hundreds of texts per month in the plan, so very viable.

Yes, it is.  And although I don't know how I could live w/o my cell phone, it kills me to pay so much for something I don't use all that much.

I heard once that texts cost the phone provider about .02 cents a piece.  While we get charged 20 cents each (I'm sure higher plans are cheaper per text.)  That's quite a hefty profit!  I believe most plans here are so many minutes (of calls) per month.  And anyone in your network is free.  My husband, sons and a few good friends are all in my network, so I can talk to them all month long for free.

If the battery would hold out.  lol

A couple of months ago, I saw a tricked out Scion go by with 4 Asian kids in it.  All, yes including the driver, were talking on their cell phones.  It made me sad.

I do text whilst in the car, but I let the phone do the work.  There's an app called "Vlingo" which has a good TTS engine in it.  You can speak the message you want to send, and it will transcribe and send.  It's free, which is always a plus in my book.

Oh, and I discovered that you can type in a custom command prompt - anything you want.  It's a hoot getting it to say things.
