Its a microphone. Bit like the Sennheiser dummy head concept only better probably. I have got a dummy head recording of a train set. Done with the head right in the middle of the train set. It is quite something!

They are not the same company. Sennheiser did it first that is all. Probably 30 years ago in fact! But I am sure now that Neumann have got a hold of it then the mics themselves could be better. Sennheiser may have had a patent on the concept until now perhaps.

my question is,
what does neumann do with this setup, that is different than, say, a typical X-Y setup?
how does it differ?
and if i wanted central imaging, why would this be better than, say, MS?
