hear sound from emu 0404 soundcard dsp .. but cannot record any audio in sonar?

Hi , i get sound from my emu 0404 sound card and patchmix using an audio mic plugged into the external red /white jacks  of the sound card on the patchmix audio is going through on the main meter thing is its not showing any audio in sonar i set the emu L OR R INPUTS
but nothing shows? and when i set an audio track to record just records nothing ?? do i have to set something in sonar to set it up ??

    Go to Options-Audio-Drivers and make sure the Emu is set as the input and output. Deselect any audio devices except the Emu.
    Go to Options-Audio-Advanced and make sure the driver mode is set to ASIO.

    Did that get it?
    You may still have to do a few things in Patchmix to record in Sonar.
