help needed with cakewalk 4 by big dumb guy

hi,

im in desperate need of help here.i bought a new p.c. and laptop and threw out my old p.c. it was about 10 years old.i uploaded music creator 4 to the new p.c. but for some reason it wont work properly.there seems to be 3 problems;

1.when i input musical notes into piano roll or staff upon playback i can only hear the first few notes in the first bar even if i have input 4 bars worth of notes the rest dont seem to play.this also happens if i input audio as a drum sample for example it plays a couple of bars and then it goes silent even though you can see the sample playing.

2.if i input an audio sample in say bar 5, it starts to play it before the timer/metronome even gets to it, this happens with input musical notes in piano roll and staff as well.

3. whether its an audio sample or a bar of inputted musical notes when you play playback you get a sort of clicking sound or distortion echo that i cant seem to get rid of.

so i uninstalled it and installed it on the laptop and the exact same problems are happening. i never had any problems with music creator 4 on my old p.c.

any kind of help would be great.

many thanks,

john.

    we need more info on the new computer.

    Are you trying to use MC4 on a Windows 7 64 bit operating system?  MC4 is 32 bit. so it will have issues in 64 bit mode. Perhaps you can run it in 32 bit compatability mode.... the OS.

    Second, are you using s laptop's sound card?  Another thing that doesn't usually end well.  All sorts of glitchy things happen with factory cards in lappys, combine that with the OS issues and ........ well.... you have problems.

    OS=operating system.
    MC 4 isn't compatible with Windows 7, though you may be able to get it to work. If your OS is Win 7 64-bit, make sure the program installs in the Program Files (X86) folder.
    You can also right-click the MC 4 icon and select Troubleshoot Compatibility and Windows will try to set it up to work as good as possible. Set it to Run As Administrator, too.
    Find any post by Beagle and click the link to his personal web site. He has audio interface (sound card) recommendations there.

    It's not compatible, either. MC 6 is the first made-to-be-compatible with Win 7 progam.
    That doesn't mean they won't work. I've run SONAR Home Studio 6 on my Win 7 64-bit computer many times without problems, using Troubleshoot Compatibility and Run As Administrator. SHS 6 came out earlier than MC 4, I think.

    I think I have heard that a few people have gotten MC4 to run on W7 in 32 bit mode.   HOWEVER...... since MC4 has not been on sale for some time, I'll assume it is an older version you had that was bought some time back and saved to CD or came on CD.

    It would not be a bad idea to purchase the new MC6 since there are a bunch of nice synths and sound libraries that are in MC6 that were not in MC4. Well worth the cost to upgrade to the new one.
