help reinstalling VSTs

Ive had to reinstall everything, wow lost alot of stuff and just getting things up & running from a serious HDD fail. I have downloaded all my files(lol i think...) and I need to know how I should go about reinstalling my toontrack purchaces. I also need to know exactly where I need all my files to be so I can find my stuff in my vst plugins. I tried installing everything yesterday and things didnt work out. So I have uninstalled all the toontrack products to start from scratch. I have currently up loaded Sonar X1b. and Im running sonar in 64bit. on win7 pro OS. I need to know the ORDER thats best to install, authorise, and update. For example. Do I load ezdrummer first, update it then authorise it, or load it then authorise then update? The other part of my problem WHERE. In my c:\program files\cakewalk folder theres a VST folder, and theres also a vst folder in c:\prgram files(x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins. I realise some of these questions are Sonar related and Ill be posting on their forum as well. Thanks!
A quick list of my toontrack products.....
Ezdrummer
Ezkeys
Ezmix /w upgrade
EZX expansions - Claustrophobic kit - Electronic kit - Funkmasters kit - Metal Machine kit

FWIW, you should do yourself a BIG favour and update Sonar to X1C, then X1D

The folder c:\Program Files (X86)\Cakewalk\VST Plugins is for your 32 bit plugs.
The other one is for your 64 bit plugs.

I would have thought with the EZ drummer stuff is to Install it, authorize it, then update it.
An update will probably fail if it's applied to a non-updated install

yea im getting it all to work right now. Ive been just installing it, checking it then autho then updating and it all seems to be working as it should. Although I have been installing the 64bit .dlls into the VST folder in (x86) and its all showing up as it should. THanks for the reply Bristol!

Yeah, they will if you've got that path specified in the Plugin Manager - but a word of warning - if you're installing the 32 bit version of well, plugin management can become a real headache!

    Just sayin'...............

I feel your pain.  I have been through this and it is a beating.

One suggestion: If you are going to run in 64-bit (I do), get rid of the VST *.dlls in the 32-bit folder.  If you are in 64-bit and Sonar finds two dlls with the same name (one for 32 and one for 64), you may get hosed up.  This caused me a lot of grief.

I ask my more technical brethren to weigh in here.
